South Africa Holds International Art Festival Despite COVID Pandemic
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - South Africa has held its annual International Public Arts Festival (IPAF), despite the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing measures. Turnout was low but those attending welcomed the street festival, held Feb. 10-14, as a chance to get out of the house. Scores of people attended the IPAF's opening in Cape Town this month – even though South Africa has been the country worst hit on the African continent by the coronavirus pandemic. The annual street arts festival strictly followed the government’s COVID-19 rules, including no groups larger than 50 people – said one of the organizers, Alexandre Tilmas. “The best way was to split people. Because we are painting outdoors, and the artists are outdoors, every guest that want[s] to visit us, we put them in tiny little groups and send them [to] visit the neighborhood.” The artists changed the landscape in the Salt River neighborhood, a former industrial area made famous by the colorful murals. ‘Second Assault’ to be featured at Loft Film Fest
Imagine being an 18-year-old, out-of-state freshman at The University of Arizona. It is your first month in college, and no one believes you. This narrative was true for 2010 UA alumna Jillian Corsie, a sexual assault survivor, documentary filmmaker and film editor. Corsie, 12 years after the assault, turned her experience into a documentary called Second Assault, which will be featured at the 2018 Loft Film Fest. Second Assault is named after what sexual assault survivors often go through when they are not believed or have no support, according to Corsie. Her main message in her film for everyone is to believe each other. “As college students, it is hard to have the tools or even general sense of how to help others in that situation,” Corsie said. When Corsie was 18 years old, she came to UA and lived in Coronado Residence Hall, where she was sexually attacked. Nolte: Preteen ‘Twerking’ Film Is Netflix’s 3rd Strike for Sexualizing Children
Netflix has been caught promoting a movie titled Cuties as a drama about an 11-year-old who “explores her femininity” through “twerking,” complete with a provocative poster. This is the far-left streaming outlet’s third strike when it comes to sexualizing children. This streaming site is home to Barack and Michelle Obama. The movie — a Sundance darling, naturally — is a French title. Cuties is rated TV-MA, which means there is an 11-year-old character in a movie that is “usually not suitable for anyone under 17 years of age (18 in some cases). Content may contain strong coarse language, explicit (in some cases, pornographic) strong sexual content, nudity, or intense/graphic violence.” According to the Daily Mail, the theatrical release earned an NC-17 rating, which means no children under 17 are allowed into the theater, even if accompanied by a parent. NC-17 movies usually earn that rating for provocative sexual imagery. The … [Read more...] about Nolte: Preteen ‘Twerking’ Film Is Netflix’s 3rd Strike for Sexualizing Children
