Forecast figures from an Italian research institute have indicated the centre-right coalition of Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini may win as many as 60 per cent of the seats in parliament in next month’s election. Forecast figures released by the Carlo Cattaneo Institute this week claim that the centre-right coalition of Meloni’s Brothers of Italy (FdI), Salvini’s League and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, could score up to 46 per cent of the vote next month. Translated into seats in the Italian parliament, the forecast claims the coalition could win 127 of 200 senate seats and 245 out of 400 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, winning clear majorities in each chamber of parliament, Il Giornale reports . An Ohio jury ordered Oberlin College to pay $11.2 million in compensatory damages to a family bakery smeared by the university as racist. Back in November of 2016, three Oberlin students were caught attempting to steal bottles of wine from Gibson’s Bakery, which has been part of the small community of 8,300 since 1885 . According to a CBS News report published in December of 2017, the three young men were arrested for “kicking and punching” the owner’s son, Allyn Gibson, and eventually “pleaded guilty in August to attempted theft and aggravated trespassing.” Seems fairly cut and dried, no? After all, what you have here is a small business in a small college town that has had a good relationship with its community for more than a century. The majority of Americans would rather a national popular vote total decide presidential elections than the Electoral College vote totals, a survey from the think tank Pew Research Center has found. The survey sampled more than 6,000 Americans, discovering that 63 percent would prefer presidential elections be decided by the national popular vote. Conversely, just 35 percent of respondents favored keeping “the current system, in which the candidate who wins the most votes in the Electoral College wins the election,” the survey found. The gap between pro and anti-Electoral College Americans has grown since last year. In January 2021, Pew Research found that 55 percent of Americans preferred moving towards a popular vote system, as opposed to 43 percent who still favored Electoral College vote totals deciding the president.
