Tom Brady. Photo: Elsa/Getty Images NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has upheld Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for his role in the Patriots’ Deflategate scandal. Brady had appealed the suspension, and though the league and the NFL Players Association had reportedly been in settlement talks in recent days, the future Hall of Fame quarterback reportedly wouldn’t accept any deal unless it included no suspension and made clear his punishment was for failing to cooperate with the investigation and not for breaking football rules. In a statement released today, the NFL said that Goodell’s ruling “emphasized important new information disclosed by Brady and his representatives in connection with the hearing.” That new information? That shortly before meeting with the independent investigator, Brady had a cell phone he’d been using for four months destroyed. From the NFL’s release: On or shortly before March 6, the day that Tom Brady … [Read more...] about NFL Upholds Tom Brady’s 4-Game Deflategate Suspension

Tom Brady: ‘I Did Nothing Wrong’
Tom Brady. Photo: Focus On Sport/Getty Images Yesterday, the NFL announced that commissioner Roger Goodell had upheld Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for his alleged role in the Patriots’ ball-deflation scandal. Today, Brady responded with a Facebook post not only proclaiming his innocence, but insisting that no one in the organization had done anything wrong. From his post: I am very disappointed by the NFL’s decision to uphold the 4 game suspension against me. I did nothing wrong, and no one in the Patriots organization did either. Despite submitting to hours of testimony over the past 6 months, it is disappointing that the Commissioner upheld my suspension based upon a standard that it was “probable” that I was “generally aware” of misconduct. The fact is that neither I, nor any equipment person, did anything of which we have been accused. He dismissed my hours of testimony and it is disappointing that he found it unreliable. … [Read more...] about Tom Brady: ‘I Did Nothing Wrong’
Tom Brady Will Reportedly Sue the NFL If His Suspension Isn’t Fully Overturned
Tom Brady. Photo: Elsa/Getty Images Tom Brady, as you’ll recall, was suspended for four games for his involvement in the Patriots’ ball-deflation scandal — a decision he’s appealing with the league. A ruling could come down this week, but in the meantime, a report says Brady and the NFLPA intend to sue the league if his suspension isn’t overturned completely. Here’s Ryan Smith, a legal analyst for ABC andESPN: #DeflateGate latest: NFLPA sources tells us if Tom Brady’s appeal results in suspension for ANY games, they’ll challenge in federal court— Ryan Smith (@ryansmithtv) July 15, 2015 Albert Breer, a reporter for the NFL Network, says Brady met with the NFL players’ union on Monday, and that his plan is to file the suit in either Massachusetts (where he’s an icon) or Minnesota (a labor-friendly court). Roger Goodell himself will decide whether to uphold, reduce, or throw out Brady’s suspension, and while … [Read more...] about Tom Brady Will Reportedly Sue the NFL If His Suspension Isn’t Fully Overturned
Why Tom Brady’s Agent’s Suggestion of an NFL Sting Doesn’t Add Up
Tom Brady in last season’s AFC Championship Game. Photo: Jim Rogash/Getty Images The Wells Report released yesterday found it was “more probable than not” that Tom Brady was “at least generally aware” that low-level Patriots employees deflated footballs in advance of last season’s AFC Championship Game. But Brady’s agent Don Yee has fired back, claiming, among other things, that the law firm that prepared the report had a conflict of interest and that the investigators had a limited understanding of football. But one accusation stands out: that the NFL cooperated with the Patriots’ opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, in what Yee calls “a sting operation.” The findings of the report, though, don’t really back up those claims. First, here’s an excerpt of Yee’s statement, via Deadspin: “The Wells report, with all due respect, is a significant and terrible disappointment. Its omission of key facts and … [Read more...] about Why Tom Brady’s Agent’s Suggestion of an NFL Sting Doesn’t Add Up
Tom Brady Goes Deep When Asked About Antonio Brown’s Release
Tom Brady had a lot to say when asked about Antonio Brown's release during the quarterback's Monday morning WEEI interview. In classic Brady fashion, though, it still isn't clear what his feelings on Brown are. Brady answered with a fairly deep, through rather indirect answer that lasted almost as long as Brown's tenure with the Patriots. (Read Brady's full response at the bottom of this story.) The Patriots released Brown Friday after he was accused of sexually assaulting two women and sending threatening messages to one. Brown played in the Patriots' 43-0 win over Miami Sept. 15 and caught a touchdown pass from Brady. "There's a lot of human elements," Brady said. "As a player, as a person, I care deeply about my teammates. I want everyone to be the best they can possibly be." Brady talked about investing his head, heart and soul with the teammates he's had over his 20 years in the league. "So I think in the end, the endearing trait about sports for me is the relationships I get to … [Read more...] about Tom Brady Goes Deep When Asked About Antonio Brown’s Release
