Anousheh Ansari was a young girl in Iran when she fell in love with the stars.Ansari would sleep under the sky on summer nights in her home country of Iran and question what was in the darkness above her.“What are those stars? What are they made of? Are there people living up there?” Ansari said she would ask herself.That curiosity fueled Ansari’s dream to travel to space.Her dream was fulfilled in 2006 when Ansari was among the U.S. and Russian crew that traveled to the International Space Station.In that trip, Ansari became the first female space tourist and first person of Iranian descent to travel to space.Ansari will be the keynote speaker at a Speakers Assembly of Southwest Florida dinner on Feb. 22, where she will give her account of her unlikely journey to the stars.
