EU Orders ‘Right to Repair’ on Durability of Some Consumer Electrical Goods
BERLIN (AP) – Companies that sell refrigerators, washers, hairdryers or TVs in the European Union will need to ensure those appliances can be repaired for up to 10 years, to help reduce the vast mountain of electrical waste that piles up each year on the continent. The “right to repair,” as it is sometimes called, comes into force across the 27-nation bloc Monday. It is part of a broader effort to cut the environmental footprint of manufactured goods by making them more durable and energy efficient. “This is a really big step in the right direction” said Daniel Affelt of the environmental group BUND-Berlin, which runs several “repair cafes” where people can bring in their broken appliances and get help fixing them up again. Modern appliances are often glued or riveted together, he said. “If you need specialist tools or have to break open the device, then you can´t repair it.” Lack of spare parts is another problem, campaigners say. Sometimes a single broken tooth on a tiny … [Read more...] about EU Orders ‘Right to Repair’ on Durability of Some Consumer Electrical Goods

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned as co-hosts of this year's Golden Globe Awards , one of the biggest nights for TV and film , and they wasted no time mocking the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who puts on the show. In the week leading up to 78th annual awards show came the revelation that there are no Black voting members in the group, something that only reinforced criticism that the press association — which notoriously controversial host Ricky Gervais last year called "very, very racist" in his opening monologue — is in need of overhauling. Justin Danhof: Vote the Corporate Bums Out
After being disappeared, the social media platform Parler found its way back to the Internet two weeks ago. It was an arduous journey that shows how widespread the left’s desire is to cancel conservative organizations, people, speech, and ideas. In early January, Apple, Google, and Amazon teamed up to kick Parler, a social media company favored by conservatives, off the Internet. There one day and gone the next, Parler was declared unfit by these corporate oligarchs simply because it allowed conservatives to freely communicate. These tech giants disappeared Parler with the stroke of a key. Full stop. Conservatives are rightly furious at these corporate censors. But I have to ask: What are conservative leaders doing about it? Conservatives are also justifiably furious at Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter for banning all manner of conservative speech, including deleting former President Trump’s accounts. But again, what are conservative leaders doing about it? Some right-wing … [Read more...] about Justin Danhof: Vote the Corporate Bums Out
