STOCKTON (CBS13) – Putting yourself out there may not be easy, but sending a message that builds unity may be worth it. Brandon Leake has made it clear he’s willing to take that leap. The 27-year-old from Stockton stole hearts on the national stage by telling a very personal story about the death of his baby sister. Leake was the first-ever spoken word poet to win America’s Got Talent. His words captured the judges and drew a standing ovation. His sister passed away when he was only 4-years-old. She died from an enlarged heart at only eight-months-old. “She was sitting in the car next to me as we were going to pick up my grandpa. She fell asleep and just didn’t wake up,” Leake told CBS13. The House, which has sole power to move for impeachment, has done so, charging the former president with "incitement to insurrection." Ergo, it falls to the Senate to try that case. But let’s pause on that. We need action on environmental equity — not just words
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how important access to the outdoors is for our health and well-being. This is especially true for lower-income communities of color that have borne the brunt of the pandemic and often lack access to good parks. The Biden administration has an opportunity to prioritize equitable access to parks and public lands to ensure that chronically underserved communities enjoy the benefits of America’s great natural heritage. The president, vice president and key Cabinet members are saying all the right things about equity and the environment. Here is what they can do to turn those words into actions and on-the-ground outcomes: Biden pledged to protect “30 by 30” — 30 percent of lands and waters by 2030 — which would serve traditional habitat conservation and new goals of increasing climate resilience and adaptation. MA Climate Official Resigns After Citing Need to ‘Break’ the Will of Average People to Reduce Emissions
A Massachusetts climate official has resigned from his post after making controversial remarks during a Vermont Climate Council meeting last month, where he acknowledged 60 percent of emissions in his state come from average people and cited the need to “break” their will — a comment he acknowledged would not resonate well publicly. He has since apologized for his remarks, partially attributing them to his “inability to clearly communicate” during the meeting. “It is with great regret that I submit my resignation, effectively immediately, from the position of Undersecretary for Climate Change in the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs,” David Ismay, who served under Gov. Charlie Baker’s (R-MA) administration, submitted in a Wednesday letter after the fallout over remarks he made during the January 25 meeting with Vermont climate advocates. During the virtual meeting, Ismay explained that average people, “the person across the street, the senior on fixed … [Read more...] about MA Climate Official Resigns After Citing Need to ‘Break’ the Will of Average People to Reduce Emissions
