William Westhoven Morristown Daily Record Published 2:09 PM EDT Sep 26, 2018 PARSIPPANY — Woodland Park Mayor Keith Kazmark was confirmed as the new township business administrator during Tuesday night's council meeting. Kazmark will replace Ellen Sandman, who is retiring effective Dec. 1 after four years on the job. She will assist with the transition until she leaves, Mayor Michael Soriano said. "I think this is a new, exciting challenge," Kazmark said after the council voted in favor of his appointment after midnight, near the end of a lengthy agenda meeting. "I think my highest priority is going to be earning the trust of each and every member of the governing body as I transition into this new position." Although smoke continued to be visible from a 160-acre fire north of Woodland Park, U.S. Forest Service officials said Sunday night firefighters were succeeding in keeping it from growing.Fire crews burned off fuels in the interior and were patrolling the perimeter of the Turkey Track 8 fire, which started in the area of the Turkey Track Shooting Area on Forest Service land. A fire burning north of Woodland Park has now scorched 167 acres, the U.S. Forest Service confirmed late Sunday morning.The "Turkey Track 8 Fire," as it has been dubbed, sparked Saturday afternoon 8 miles north of Woodland Park and 3 miles east of Westcreek near a shooting area on Forest Service land. The fire exploded in size since the last report at 8:30 Saturday night, which had the fire at 10 acres.The closest structures are within a mile of the fire.The Forest Service says despite the growth, the fire is 30 percent contained Sunday. Risks to firefighters include snags on the land and unspent ammunition; a burn operation is planned for Sunday to help reduce the risk.
