Thursday, FNC’s Tucker Carlson reacted to President Joe Biden’s pledge to use his executive authority to restrict Second Amendment rights earlier in the day. Carlson called Biden’s pick to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms “unhinged” and said efforts to curb gun rights were steeped in the government’s desire for control. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: We often accuse politicians of dishonesty on this show, but there are grades of it. Let’s boil it down. Nothing the Democratic Party advocates for is more dishonest than gun control. Everything about that one specific issue is false. Most policy debates actually aren’t like that, and we try to be honest about it on this show. No matter how passionate you are about a position that you have, you can still sort of see what the other side is talking about. You might, for example deeply dislike taxes, but you can still acknowledge it is fair to charge people for the services they receive from the government. The year that’s still breaking our hearts

(CNN) The word "trauma" made its way into the English language from the ancient Greek verb that means to "penetrate." The first known use of it came in 1693 when it was described as "a wound from an external cause." But today our notion of trauma goes beyond the physical to include the extreme mental anguish that can penetrate lives. In 2020, we had trauma every which way: a deadly pandemic, an economic plunge, a reckoning over race and a fraught election made for a time that will shape history for decades to come. That we are still coming to terms with all of it was clearer than ever this week. In a Minneapolis courtroom, witnesses relived the pain of George Floyd's public death, as prosecutors revealed that Derek Chauvin, then a police officer and now on trial for the events of last May, knelt on Floyd's neck for … [Read more...] about The year that’s still breaking our hearts

(CNN) One year ago this week I sat in a hospital room tapping my fingers impatiently on the cold chair as my doctor told me I would have to wait a few days for the results of my Covid-19 test. Our nation was barely a month into quarantine. The words "pandemic" and "coronavirus" were still new to our vernacular. I was a journalist -- I had to interview a nurse the next day on my show -- and I didn't have time for this Covid thing. Ha. Brooke Baldwin Cut to a positive test result and three long weeks of being sidelined from the job I have held so dear. I was one of the first public figures to test positive and to get very sick. I wrote an essay about my fight with Covid-19 , an experience that so many millions of … [Read more...] about Brooke Baldwin: These women inspired me in the year since Covid-19 knocked me flat
Tucker Carlson: Biden wants to take your guns, but leave criminals with theirs
close Video Tucker: Biden's pick to head ATF is an 'unhinged' man 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' host says 'nothing the Democratic party advocates for is more dishonest than gun control' Nothing the Democratic Party advocates for is more dishonest than gun control . Everything about that specific issue is false. Most policy debates aren’t like that, and we try to be honest about it. You might deeply dislike taxes, for example, but you can still acknowledge it’s fair to charge people for the services they receive from government. The other side isn’t crazy, they’ve just arrived at a different number than you did. You can hate abortion (and we do) and still understand (again, if you’re being totally honest about it) why a scared pregnant teenager might be tempted to have one. Gun control is not like that. Gun control is entirely … [Read more...] about Tucker Carlson: Biden wants to take your guns, but leave criminals with theirs
Matt Gaetz (R–TV)
He’s getting a lot of media attention, all right. Photo: Tom Williams/CQ-Roll Call, Inc via Getty Imag Soon after Matt Gaetz was first elected to Congress in 2016, his focus became clear. It wasn’t any of his official responsibilities, according to a former staffer in his D.C. office — it was going on TV. “Nothing beat out going on Fox,” the staffer recently recalled. This wasn’t just simple vainglory. It represented Gaetz’s fundamental political philosophy : “If you aren’t making news, you aren’t governing.” This approach to politics hasn’t made him many friends in Washington or imbued him with the air of gravitas that ambitious politicians once craved. But as scandal has swirled around him, it has served as something of a shield. The son of a former president of the Florida state senate who made a fortune in the hospice industry, Gaetz was first elected to the Florida state legislature at age 28. He never made a secret of the fact that his personal life was as … [Read more...] about Matt Gaetz (R–TV)
