TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) – People across the Delaware Valley are cleaning up Monday after fierce winds left a mess behind and hundreds without power. It was a quick-moving storm, but it left a path of destruction in its wake. Luis Garcias came back home Monday morning to survey the damage left behind. He says he was in his second-floor apartment when the roof of Stone-Tech Fabrication blew off and flew across the street. NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Strong winds and heavy rain caused havoc in parts of New Jersey on Sunday. In Neptune Township, a row of trees collapsed due to the strong winds, and in Monmouth County more than 8,000 customers were without power, CBS2’s Cory James reported. Power cuts in Texas and elsewhere could cost Colorado energy consumers
Colorado residents were spared from the massive power outages last week that left more than 4 million Texas households in the dark and bitter cold, put 14 million under orders to boil their tap water and left an untold number coping with empty store shelves and disrupted lives. Nor did they have to cope with the more localized outages that hit residents of Oregon, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. Nor was a power system failure an issue here as it was with the Southwest Power Pool, which covers Kansas, Oklahoma and parts of another dozen states across the Great Plains. PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The coronavirus vaccine has been hard to come by for older people who have trouble getting out of their homes. Raymond Bukauskas has been searching for a homebound vaccine shot. The 95-year-old is a part-time caretaker for his 98-year-old wife, Jeanne. They’ve been married for 65 years. Raymond has tracked down the coronavirus vaccine. Jeanne has not received the vaccine yet. “God gave us a good chance to stay together, but I was looking forward to having her vaccinated, just to be on the safe side,” Raymond said. Nawal El Saadawi, famous Egyptian feminist author, dies aged 89
(CNN) Nawal El Saadawi , a famous Egyptian feminist author, physician and psychiatrist, has died aged 89, state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Sunday. El Saadawi was known as a defender of women's rights and fought strongly against the widespread practice of female genital mutation. She was jailed and persecuted and received threats from conservatives throughout her life for her daring views. El Saadawi was the founder and president of the Arab Women's Solidarity Association and co-founder of the Arab Association for Human Rights. In 1981, she founded a feminist magazine called "Al-Moawgaha" (which translates to "The Confrontation"). El Saadawi's most popular books are "Women & Sex" and "Memoirs from a Women's Prison."
