Buckingham Palace may have allegedly been caught "off-guard" by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent announcements as independent royals. On Feb. 15, CBS announced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in a special titled "Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special." The interview will air on Sunday, March 7. It will also be the couple’s first sit-down since their engagement. Then on Feb. 19, Buckingham Palace confirmed they won’t be returning to royal duties, and Harry will give up his honorary military titles. Soon after, a spokesperson for the pair hit back at suggestions they were not devoted to duty by releasing their own statement. "As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess … [Read more...] about Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s Oprah Winfrey sit-down caught palace courtiers ‘off-guard,’ royal expert claims

Netflix Says It Needs More Latin Programming After Launching Internal Diversity Audit
The streaming giant Netflix says that it needs more Latin programming after launching an internal diversity audit conducted last year by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, an entertainment industry diversity think tank, according to a report by CNN Business . On Friday, researchers revealed that only 4.5 percent of main roles went to Latin actors and filmmakers during a two-year span, despite Latinos making up roughly 18 percent of the U.S. population. Meanwhile, the percentage of main cast members on Netflix who were black reached 22.7 percent in 2019, which was up from 16.2 percent in 2018, while roughly 13 percent of the U.S. is black. As for Asian main cast members — who make up roughly 6 percent of the U.S. population — that number was at about 7 percent in 2018 and 2019. Meanwhile, women of all races — who make up roughly 51 percent of the U.S. population — had 52 percent of leads and co-leads in Netflix original films and series over the two-year span. “The … [Read more...] about Netflix Says It Needs More Latin Programming After Launching Internal Diversity Audit
Pac-12 recruiting: Arizona’s Jedd Fisch is a Twitter master, and it just might help him get the Wildcats turned around
Arizona coach Jedd Fisch wants to be clear: There is no ghost writer on his Twitter account. That GIF of the wrestler getting off the mat? Fisch tweeted it himself. That GIF of (the late, great) Fred Willard trying to answer all the ringing phones? From Fisch. That GIF of Michael Scott walking out of his office in ‘The Office’ and exclaiming “OK, it’s happening”? Also from Fisch. All the humor, both overt and subtle? Fisch. The foreshadowing? Fisch. The celebrations? Fisch. “It’s really important for people to know, like with a handwritten letter, that when it’s from me, it’s from me,’’ Fisch explained recently. “No one tweets for me, or comes up with the ideas. It’s my thing.” It’s real, and it’s, well, spectacular. If Fisch is half the coach he is the tweeter, the Wildcats are bowl bound in 2021. Only one Pac-12 head coach has a Twitter game that comes close to matching Fisch’s: Washington State’s Nick Rolovich. The other coaches play it straight, or … [Read more...] about Pac-12 recruiting: Arizona’s Jedd Fisch is a Twitter master, and it just might help him get the Wildcats turned around
Will Artificial Intel get along with us? Only if we design it that way
Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems that interact with us the way we interact with each other have long typified Hollywood’s image, whether you think of HAL in “2001: A Space Odyssey,” Samantha in “Her,” or Ava in “Ex Machina.” It thus might surprise people that making systems that interact, assist or collaborate with humans has never been high on the technical agenda. From its beginning, AI has had a rather ambivalent relationship with humans. The biggest AI successes have come either at a distance from humans (think of the “Spirit” and “Opportunity” rovers navigating the Martian landscape) or in cold adversarial faceoffs (the Deep Blue defeating world chess champion Gary Kasparov, or AlphaGo besting Lee Sedol). In contrast to the magnetic pull of these “replace/defeat humans” ventures, the goal of designing AI systems that are human-aware, capable of interacting and collaborating with humans and engendering trust in them, has received much less attention. More recently, as … [Read more...] about Will Artificial Intel get along with us? Only if we design it that way
