U.S. Donald Trump Betting on the future of the presidency has become big business in the era of Donald Trump. And those with money at stake continue to offer strong odds that the 45th president of the United States may not see out his full first term in office, either by being impeached or becoming just the second U.S. president to resign, Trump has had to ride various scandals during his time in the Oval Office—from the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion with his campaign to his much-criticized remarks when blaming “both sides” following a deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, a year ago. Last month, Trump stoked further controversy when standing alongside Vladimir Putin and appearing to accept the Russian president’s denial of interfering in the 2016 election above the unanimous view of his own intelligence agencies. U.S. Donald Trump President Donald Trump has endured one of the most controversial weeks of a tumultuous presidency, experiencing bipartisan condemnation for his struggles to take a tough stance with Russian President Vladimir Putin. And it appears the public, at least in the United Kingdom and Ireland, have taken notice, daring to place bets on the Trump administration meeting an early end, either through impeachment or resigning. In the 24 hours since Trump’s widely panned press conference with Putin in Helsinki Monday, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power cut the odds on Trump becoming just the third president in history to be impeached to 2/1, the equivalent of a 33 percent chance. Prior to Trump appearing to side with Putin’s denial of meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election, the odds stood at 4/1, a 20 percent chance. The White House has spent several days trying to clean up Trump’s remarks. On Tuesday, Trump claimed he simply misspoke in Helsinki. Rep. Joe Kennedy III doesn't like shortcuts -- not on policy-making, not on passing legislation, and not on issues of presidential impeachment. When asked this week on "The Takeout" podcast whether he'll heed billionaire Tom Steyer's call for Democrats to demand President Donald Trump be impeached, the Massachusetts congressman from a family with famed Democratic roots, says he wouldn't go that far. "Look, when you start talking about the impeachment – the early removal of power of the President of the United States – it behooves the American public – or our government – to make sure that this isn't something that's going to be used taken lightly," Kennedy said. "You want to have the process play out before you call somebody guilty or innocent." Last week, Democratic billionaire donor Tom Steyer initiated a $10 million ad campaign calling for the president's impeachment. "A Republican Congress once impeached a president for far less," Steyer's ad says. "Yet … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Should Trump be impeached? Rep. Joe Kennedy says it’s too early to say
U.S. Mike Pence Donald Trump Michael Flynn FBI Russia probe President Donald Trump isn’t the only White House official who might worry about impeachment as the probe widens into possible collusion between his election campaign and Russia. Vice President Mike Pence was reportedly among senior officials involved in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, which is the basis for the allegation that Trump obstructed justice. Trump wrote a memo stating the reason for firing Comey was to shut down the Russia investigation, and he read it to Pence and close officials before scrapping it. That means Pence likely knew Trump’s real motivation for canning Comey, but publicly backed Trump’s cover story the next day. Former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea last Friday also brings into question whether Pence was truly in the dark on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, as he has claimed. Pence … [Read more...] about Will Mike Pence be impeached or resign amid the Russia probe involving Trump?
An impeachment campaign launched by a Democratic billionaire attracted the ire of President Donald Trump Friday. Mega-donor Tom Steyer launched the “Need To Impeach” initiative in an effort to urge people to implore Congress to vote the president out of office. “Donald Trump has brought us to the brink of nuclear war, obstructed justice and taken money from foreign governments,” the campaign website reads. “We need to impeach this dangerous president.” Trump hit back at Steyer Friday using his preferred method of communication. “Wacky & totally unhinged Tom Steyer, who has been fighting me and my Make America Great Again agenda from the beginning, never wins elections!” the president tweeted. Steyer, who donated more than $91 million to Democrats during the 2016 elections, launched the $10 million national campaign to remove Trump before his term officially ends.
