Amie Schaenzer , Patch Staff Posted | Updated Reply LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, we've been bombarded with a lot of bad news. With cases spiking again amid the fast spread of the omicron variant, we have been inundated with updates on hospitals filling up, schools dealing with massive staff shortages, and some turning to remote learning, and an overall sense of fatigue from nearly two years of living in this new normal. Many families have been forced to navigate living with less from less daycare, to less schooling and the added responsibility of teaching children remotely, to less disposable income due to the rising cost of food, gasoline and many other goods. Some have lost their jobs. The picture has been grim through most of this but a … [Read more...] about Libertyville Parents: How Has COVID Changed Your Family Life?

Amato's campaign, pitting him against two rivals … [Read more...] about Arts workers are increasingly stepping onto the political stage

7 Days of Le Corbusier and Calder in Provence
Photo-Illustration: The Strategist. In this recurring series, we find those people who’ve done all the work for you and have them walk us through a particularly wonderful, especially well-thought-out vacation they took that you can actually steal. Virginia Mom Sues School For Allegedly Pushing ‘Anti-Racism’ Curriculum On Her Son
A Virginia mother sued her son’s school district over its implementation of a Critical Race Theory (CRT) curriculum that she says radically changed his outlook on race and his own identity, Fox News reported. Melissa Riley sued the Albemarle County School Board over its “anti-racism” policy that she believes completely shifted her biracial son’s outlook on race, she told “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday. “We didn’t have issues before,” Riley told Watters. “He is in eighth grade. He’s seeing himself just as a black man. He’s seeing things that don’t go his way as racism. And he is finding safety in numbers now.” CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies. Riley is one of the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against Albemarle County School Board by Alliance Defending Freedom … [Read more...] about Virginia Mom Sues School For Allegedly Pushing ‘Anti-Racism’ Curriculum On Her Son

Federal Court Nixes Vaccine Mandate, Citing Religious Liberty
A federal court denied a petition for rehearing in a case surrounding United Airlines’ vaccine mandate — one judge accusing the company of “ coerc[ing] its employees into violating their religious beliefs.” Judges for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, widely considered the most conservative federal court, voted 13-4 on Thursday to deny a rehearing. The court also denied United Airlines’ request to vacate a panel opinion from February , which held that the mandate inflicted irreparable harm and remanded the case to district court. Trump-appointed Judge James Ho penned a concurring opinion , admonishing the airline for creating a “crisis of conscience” for its employees, and warned of new wave of corporatism in the Unites States that seeks to inflict its cultural values on Americans. Ho wrote that mandating employees with sincere religious objections to take vaccines that “were developed using aborted fetal tissue” or face indefinite unpaid … [Read more...] about Federal Court Nixes Vaccine Mandate, Citing Religious Liberty
