In the wake of two mass shootings in less than a day, outspoken Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr jumped to his Twitter account to go on the attack against the Second Amendment and gun violence. As news about the shootings emerged, Kerr mostly took to retweeting others. But in some of those re-tweets, the NBA coach added his own comments. For instance, on Saturday he noted that we have a “white supremacist problem” in the U.S.A. This pretty much sums it up. https://t.co/J823pOZuDD — Steve Kerr (@SteveKerr) August 4, 2019 He also uncorked a pair of tweets attacking Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: How does Mitch McConnell sleep at night? https://t.co/ZJSh1CxJz8 — Steve Kerr (@SteveKerr) August 4, 2019 But apparently not 'sickening' enough to actually do anything about it, huh Mitch? https://t.co/DbHSxgKUIi — Steve Kerr (@SteveKerr) August 5, 2019 But Kerr also retweeted a lot of anti-gun tweets without adding his own … [Read more...] about Warriors’ Steve Kerr After Mass Shootings: ‘How Does Mitch McConnell Sleep at Night?’

As the NBA announces its plans to investigate allegations made Thursday by G-league player and NBA veteran Jeremy Lin that he was called an anti-Asian slur “on the court,” Lin has not publicly named the player or the game where the alleged incident happened. Lin used his Facebook page, which has 3.5 million followers, to post a long statement on anti-Asian racism in America. In his post, Lin spoke for all Asian-Americans, saying, “We are tired of Asian American kids growing up and being asked where they’re REALLY from, of having our eyes mocked, of being objectified as exotic or being told we’re inherently unattractive.” Taiwanese-American Lin, who is a forward for the Santa Cruz Warriors, also referred to alleged Asian bias in sports in his post, saying, “I want better for the next generation of Asian American athletes than to have to work so hard to just be ‘deceptively athletic,'” and added, “Being a 9 year NBA veteran doesn’t protect me from being called ‘coronavirus’ on … [Read more...] about NBA’s Jeremy Lin Refuses to Name Player Who Allegedly Called Him ‘Coronavirus’

US Soccer Council Member Removed After Speaking Out Against Anthem Kneeling
CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. Soccer Federation’s athletes council removed one of its members Sunday, a day after he made a speech at the federation’s annual general meeting against removing an anti-kneeling policy. Seth Jahn, a 38-year-old from Florida who played for the U.S. seven-a-side ParaOlympic team at the 2015 Parapan American Games, spoke against repeal of what was known as Policy 604-1, put in place in response to U.S. women’s team star Megan Rapinoe kneeling in support of Colin Kaepernick. The USSF board voted to repeal the policy on June 9, a decision the online annual meeting affirmed Saturday by 71.34% voting in favor of repeal. “I’m sure I’m going to ruffle some feathers with what I’m about to say, especially given the athletes council that I’m on, but given the evolution of our quote unquote, progressive culture where everything offends everybody, those willing to take a knee our for anthem don’t care about defending half of our country and when they do so, then I … [Read more...] about US Soccer Council Member Removed After Speaking Out Against Anthem Kneeling
Why Michael Porter Jr., the last piece of Denver’s Big 3, has been leaving his “emotion at the gym”
Don’t be fooled by the lopsided nature of Saturday’s win. Baked inside of Nikola Jokic’s ho-hum triple-double and Jamal Murray’s game-high 26 points, were the seeds of a fledgling Big 3 with emerging force Michael Porter Jr. Denver’s budding trio combined for 65 points, 23 rebounds and 18 assists as the Nuggets pummeled an overwhelmed Thunder squad. “When we have a game like this, when everybody’s sharing the ball, it’s so easy to do whatever,” Jokic said when asked about his growing chemistry with Porter. “This game needs to show us how we can play.” Jokic either assisted or screened on five of Porter’s seven made shots Saturday. On another, he played hot potato with Murray, who eventually gave the ball back to Porter for a wide-open 3-point make. “It was just fun basketball,” Porter said. Asked whether those plays were an indication of the growing chemistry between the trio, Porter gave a quick retort. “It better, we better figure it out,” he said with a smile. “ … … [Read more...] about Why Michael Porter Jr., the last piece of Denver’s Big 3, has been leaving his “emotion at the gym”
