In the wake of two mass shootings in less than a day, outspoken Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr jumped to his Twitter account to go on the attack against the Second Amendment and gun violence. As news about the shootings emerged, Kerr mostly took to retweeting others. But in some of those re-tweets, the NBA coach added his own comments. For instance, on Saturday he noted that we have a “white supremacist problem” in the U.S.A. This pretty much sums it up. https://t.co/J823pOZuDD — Steve Kerr (@SteveKerr) August 4, 2019 He also uncorked a pair of tweets attacking Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: How does Mitch McConnell sleep at night? https://t.co/ZJSh1CxJz8 — Steve Kerr (@SteveKerr) August 4, 2019 But apparently not 'sickening' enough to actually do anything about it, huh Mitch? https://t.co/DbHSxgKUIi — Steve Kerr (@SteveKerr) August 5, 2019 But Kerr also retweeted a lot of anti-gun tweets without adding his own … [Read more...] about Warriors’ Steve Kerr After Mass Shootings: ‘How Does Mitch McConnell Sleep at Night?’

J.T. Compher snaps scoring drought as Avalanche bright spot in Wild loss
J.T. Compher had not recorded a point in six consecutive Avalanche games before Wednesday night. During the drought, the coaching staff stepped in to remind the fifth-year NHL forward why they haven’t lost faith in him. Compher — in addition to struggling teammates Val Nichushkin and Andre Burakovsky — were called in for individual meetings to watch tape of their best play from last season, coach Jared Bednar said. All three players proved they got the message in Colorado’s 6-2 loss against Minnesota. “They were our best line,” Bednar said. Compher broke his scoring drought with a top-shelf wrister set up on a rush by defensemen Devon Toews and Sam Girard. It was difficult to celebrate the moment following a lopsided defeat. Yet Compher’s confidence is growing. “I’d love to be more productive and continue what I did tonight,” Compher said. “For me, it’s continuing to do defense first and work on my details. The goals will come. I’ve got to continue to trust my shot and trust … [Read more...] about J.T. Compher snaps scoring drought as Avalanche bright spot in Wild loss
NBA’s Jeremy Lin Refuses to Name Player Who Allegedly Called Him ‘Coronavirus’
As the NBA announces its plans to investigate allegations made Thursday by G-league player and NBA veteran Jeremy Lin that he was called an anti-Asian slur “on the court,” Lin has not publicly named the player or the game where the alleged incident happened. Lin used his Facebook page, which has 3.5 million followers, to post a long statement on anti-Asian racism in America. In his post, Lin spoke for all Asian-Americans, saying, “We are tired of Asian American kids growing up and being asked where they’re REALLY from, of having our eyes mocked, of being objectified as exotic or being told we’re inherently unattractive.” Taiwanese-American Lin, who is a forward for the Santa Cruz Warriors, also referred to alleged Asian bias in sports in his post, saying, “I want better for the next generation of Asian American athletes than to have to work so hard to just be ‘deceptively athletic,'” and added, “Being a 9 year NBA veteran doesn’t protect me from being called ‘coronavirus’ on … [Read more...] about NBA’s Jeremy Lin Refuses to Name Player Who Allegedly Called Him ‘Coronavirus’

How Swede it is: Gabe Landeskog proud to tie Peter Forsberg as Avalanche’s third-leading scorer
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Swedish left wing Gabe Landeskog tied a boyhood idol for all-time goals in an Avalanche uniform Saturday, but the Avs’ captain won’t bank on following Peter Forsberg into the Hockey Hall of Fame just yet. Landeskog’s ability to match Forsberg with 202 goals with the Avalanche, third-most in club history, is a reminder of how good Forsberg was — because Landeksog reached 202 in 105 more games and he still trails Forsberg by 236 career points (469 to 705). Forsberg also had 47 more goals and 180 points during stints with the Quebec Nordiques (one year), Philadelphia Flyers (one and a half) and Nashville Predators (half). He and Landeskog won the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year in 1995 and 2012, respectively. But Forsberg has two Stanley Cups, an Art Ross Trophy (NHL leading scorer, 2003) and Hart Trophy (NHL MVP, 2003). Still, 202 goals in an Avalanche sweater made Landeskog a proud man Saturday night when the Avs defeated the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 at … [Read more...] about How Swede it is: Gabe Landeskog proud to tie Peter Forsberg as Avalanche’s third-leading scorer
