Feehery: How Republicans can win by focusing on schools
The Biden administration promise to open half the nation’s schools for one day a week by the end of the President’s first hundred days in office has presented the Republican Party a huge opportunity. To achieve Mr. Biden’s goal, schools across the country would have to shut down, because more than half our nation’s schools are already open for more than one day a week. Perhaps that is why the CDC put out its new recommendations that would actually put more pressure on school districts across the country to close down. This is despite the overwhelming evidence that schools are not major vectors of COVID-19 transmission. Trevor Story sets 30-30 goal, deflects talk about his Rockies’ future
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Star shortstop Trevor Story has become adept at deflecting questions about his future with the Rockies, but he’s not shy about addressing one of his goals. On Tuesday, as the Rockies held their first full-squad workout of spring training, Story said he wants to be a 30-30 man: 30 home runs, 30 stolen bases in a season. “I felt like I was on a good pace last year,” he said of the 60-game season. “Obviously, we didn’t play enough games, but that’s always been on my radar to do that.” Last season, Story led the National League with 15 stolen bases and hit 11 home runs. He nearly joined the 30-30 club in 2018 (37 homers, 27 stolen bases) and ’19 (35, 23). Story — eligible to become a free agent after this season, which has led to persistent trade rumors — said he has not talked to the Rockies about a contract extension. “I’m focused on personally being the best teammate I can be,” he said. “I try not to look too far ahead. I’m trying to be where my feet are, … [Read more...] about Trevor Story sets 30-30 goal, deflects talk about his Rockies’ future
Tennessee Republicans: Stop Student Athletes from Kneeling During National Anthem
Tennessee Republicans sent a letter to all public Tennessee colleges and universities Monday, urging presidents and chancellors to take action against student-athletes kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem at their games. “When they don the jersey of a Tennessee university, they step out of their personal roles and into the role of an ambassador for our state,” the senators wrote . “We expect all those who walk onto the field of play representing our universities to also walk onto the field of play to show respect for our National Anthem.” East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s basketball coach Jason Shay had a statement on deck last week after his players and coaches kneeled during the anthem before their loss to Mercer. His team has also kneeled before games at Alabama, Furman, and Chattanooga. “It was a decision our team made prior to the season as a call to action against racial inequalities and injustices. … Our intentions by no means involve … [Read more...] about Tennessee Republicans: Stop Student Athletes from Kneeling During National Anthem
