Driving the Day WIKIBUST -- From our colleague Cory Bennett: “Well that was a bust. WikiLeaks held a much-hyped news conference early Tuesday morning that its supporters and Hillary Clinton’s critics hoped would damage her chances at the presidency, even driving the Twitter hashtag #octobersurprise. But instead of revealing new documents, the event was an hour-plus-long infomercial celebrating the activist group’s 10th anniversary, with speakers extolling the virtues of WikiLeaks and its past achievements. Driving the Day Good Friday morning. THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: “President Trump chooses inexperienced woman who planned his son Eric’s wedding to run N.Y. federal housing programs,” by Greg Smith: “She’s arranged tournaments at Trump golf courses, served as the liaison to the Trump family during his presidential campaign, and even arranged Eric Trump’s wedding. Senate Republicans unveiled a bill Wednesday that aims to block any federal dollars from reaching Planned Parenthood. The legislation is a response to a series of undercover videos produced by anti-abortion activists who claim the organization is selling fetal tissue to researchers. (Planned Parenthood says the costs are only related to handling of the tissue donations, and it has done nothing wrong.) Freshman Sen. Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa, wrote the bill. Unveiling the bill Wednesday, Ernst stressed that it would redirect any funds that went to Planned Parenthood to other entities that provide women's health services, including community health centers and hospitals. "There will be no reduction in overall federal funding available to support women's health," Ernst said. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, said the legislation would help keep taxpayer dollars out of the hands of "some scandal-plagued organization." The measure is scheduled for a vote next week. But … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Can Congress defund Planned Parenthood?
