Broncos coach Vic Fangio said he'll start last year's backup, Kevin Hogan, against Atlanta in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday night. He'll be followed by rookies Drew Lock and Brett Rypien, Fangio said. That means Flacco is slated to make his first appearance for the Broncos on Aug. 8 at Seattle. Hogan had a rough start to training camp before settling in, and Lock is getting a crash course in the pro-style offense after taking only a handful of snaps from under center during his time at the University of Missouri. One by one, they walked out of the Empower Field tunnel on Jan. 22 to surprise Peyton Manning. His college coach and play-caller at Tennessee — Phillip Fulmer and David Cutcliffe. His second and third coaches with the Indianapolis Colts — Tony Dungy and Jim Caldwell. And, finally, his last NFL coach — Gary Kubiak.The man who was synonymous with maniacal preparation during an 18-year pro career with Indianapolis and the Broncos was taken aback. Fulmer, Cutcliffe, Dungy, Caldwell and Kubiak traveled to Denver to provide memories of coaching Manning, which served as the opening act for the unsurprising news. “We have another surprise for you,” Dungy told Manning. The Broncos signed defensive tackle Isaiah Mack on Thursday. Mack, 24, is listed at 6-foot-1, 299 pounds and finished 2020 on the New England Patriots’ practice squad. Mack played 49 games at FCS Chattanooga, posting totals of 222 tackles, 21 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Undrafted in 2019, Mack signed with Tennessee and played 13 games for the Titans (eight tackles and 1 1/2 sacks). He played six games for Tennessee in ’20, but was waived in November and claimed by the Patriots. Mack played two games for the Patriots and joined the practice squad after clearing waivers. He finished the year on the COVID-19/reserve list. Ngo hired from Bears. The Broncos hired Pierre Ngo as an assistant strength-and-conditioning coach.
