ROXBURY (CBS) – A new COVID vaccination clinic opened at the Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury on Monday. The clinic, which has partnered with Boston Medical Center, will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Roxbury has been one of the communities in the state hardest-hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Senior Pastor Rev. Willie Bodrick II says it is critical that sites like this continue to offer vaccines because people feel comfortable in their churches. In recent weeks , a few people protected with the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine have had blood clots and now this has been picked up with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine too. The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention paused the rollout of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as it needed more time to consider whether to allow its use again. This comes at a tricky time for the USA, where although the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had only just been rolled out, states had designated it as a keystone in their plan to deal with COVID-19. As a one-shot vaccine that can be stored at regular vaccine clinic refrigerator temperatures , it has an enormous advantage over the two-shot Moderna and Pfizer vaccines that require super-cold specialized refrigeration for storage. (CBS Local)- Vaccination rates in the U.S. continue to rise with the latest data from the Centers For Disease Control showing that roughly half of the country’s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The percentage of people who are fully vaccinated sits right around 30 percent of Americans. As more and more people receive their full allotment of the vaccine, the question is what do you do with the vaccine card afterwards? The CDC recommends taking a picture of the card as a backup in the event that you lose it. In addition, the agency says you should hold on to your card in case you need it for future use. To benefit people, provide a service, to do whatever is necessary,” Petra International Ministries Minister Carl Branch said. About 500 people got their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at Petra International Ministries in Penn Hills. It’s part of a partnership between AHN and the faith-based community. “I would say whatever is needed. We want to be available and ready. Poised and ready to do what is needed for the community and the good of the people,” church elder Mattie Woods said. According to AHN leaders, by Tuesday it will have administered its 300,000th shot.
