Based solely on subscriber numbers, Netflix can make a solid case for that statement. Netflix finished 2018 with 139.3 million paid subscribers around the world, and 58.5 million of those subscribers in the United States. By contrast, Amazon doesn’t disclose subscriber figures for its Prime service, which includes access to Prime Video programming. Hulu said in January that it had 25 million paying subscribers. As part of its efforts to remain the king of the streaming TV mountain, Netflix has not been shy about spending like mad to acquire new content. The company laid out $12.04 billion in 2018 to buy and produce titles for its service — an amount that dwarfs the $8.9 billion in spent in 2017. Destiny had another animated character in mind for the free-spirited pop star. She fell in love immediately with the character Moxy, whom she voices for the upcoming animated movie "UglyDolls," revealed exclusively by USA TODAY. "Moxy could not be more perfect for me. Because I’m not really that (princess) girl. I’m really this girl," says Clarkson, 36. "Moxy's personality is like 100 percent me. It's not acting. It's weird, it's like she was written for me." Top teeth-heavy Moxy and the rest of the popular plush toys UglyDolls, which started in 2001, make their movie debut on May 10, with the movie's first trailer arriving Nov. 8. Producers of an upcoming Walt Disney movie are looking for extras to populate the background of scenes being filmed in Savannah. News outlets report a casting call for paid background actors was scheduled for this weekend in Savannah. Filming of the project Walt Disney producers are calling "Goodbye Stranger" is expected to begin in September and continue into November. The film's director, Charlie Bean, told city council members at a meeting earlier this month that Savannah's downtown historic district was the perfect setting for the movie's "nostalgic romance."
