Greg Abbott (R-TX) wrote a letter Friday to Vice President Kamala Harris requesting the administration terminate the federal border facility in Texas, which houses unaccompanied foreign minors. “Now that President Biden has named you Border Czar in charge of the administration’s response, I want to express to you the threats and challenges caused by this administration’s open border policies,” the letter reads . “In your role as Border Czar, you have a duty to these children and the American people to act immediately. Apple, the trillion dollar tech company, paid a consulting firm $90,000 to “educate policymakers” regarding a bill that would prohibit U.S. companies from using forced labor of Uighur Muslims in China, according to lobbying disclosure reports filed on Friday. Apple paid two consulting firms for work on the House version of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the lobbying reports. The company paid $90,000 to Invariant LLC and the same amount to Fierce Government Relations , the records show. The Washington Post reported in November that lobbyists for Fierce Government Relations met with congressional staffers in an attempt to soften language in the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which passed in the House by a vote of 406-3 vote on Sept. 22, 2020. The podcast interview was published five days after Cook joined a growing list of business heads criticizing a recent Georgia voting law . “You know, I would dream of [voting on phones], because I think that’s where we live,” Cook told NYT opinion writer Kara Swisher in an episode of the Sway podcast. “We do our banking on phones. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The U.S. Marshal Service announced Friday they recovered 18 missing or endangered children and located dozens more in Maryland as a part of “Operation Not Forgotten.” U.S. Marshals focused on locating critically missing children over the 60-day operation. Eleven children returned to guardians on their own. Agents also located 102 children, who had previously been reported missing, and confirmed their return to guardians. ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) — Maryland added 1,297 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and hospitalizations increased, according to data from the State Department of Health. The state has recorded 421,823 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and 8,224 deaths, up 21 from Wednesday. Of those, there are 281 in ICU beds and 935 in acute care. The state’s positivity rate went down again, now at 5.56%. Over 9 million coronavirus tests have been administered in the state with 35,961 in the last day. Maryland remains in 2B of its vaccination plan, but all Marylanders ages 16 and up can get the vaccination at several mass vaccination sites around the state. Some even have walk-up lines.
