(AP) — A Black DoorDash driver no longer faces charges in a traffic stop for speeding in which a police officer shot him with a stun gun, an exchange the man caught on video as he declined to leave his car and requested a police supervisor. A judge this week dismissed the case against Delane Gordon, according to Hamilton County district attorney’s office spokesperson Bruce Garner. Gordon had been charged with speeding, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in the March 10 stop while delivering food in Collegedale, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Chattanooga. The incident happened on Sunday, June 19, at about 10:15 p.m. in the area of Healy and Stockton. So two weeks after high school graduation in 1998, at age 18, he joined the U.S. Army. During nine years of service that included two tours in Iraq, Dabney was a combat medical specialist. But after he left the Army in 2007 and returned to Memphis, married with children, he struggled to see what he’d gained from his service. “I had exchanged my youth, ambition and vigor for a future that is limited just because of my mental health,” said Dabney, who was formally diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression in 2013. The footage, which has not been publicly released, could provide the basis for a self-defense claim for Javon Green, 26, who police arrested following the shooting that killed 27-year-old Nesta Bowen and injured a 70-year-old man.
