Uk deal or no deal
Boris Johnson has tabled a meaningful vote on his newly agreed Brexit deal in the Commons this afternoon but Speaker John Bercow could scupper his plans. The Commons Speaker will have the final say on whether the vote is held and could block the request after MPs passed the Letwin amendment on Saturday, to delay making a decision on the Withdrawal Agreement. Mr Bercow, who is due to resign at the end of the month, told MPs during Saturday’s special sitting: “Rather than pronounce with sound and fury now, I will reflect on the matter and report to the House on Monday.” Downing Street said: “Letwin’s delay amendment turned Saturday into a meaningless vote and denied MPs and the public the chance to end the uncertainty.” It added: “Parliament needs a straight up-and-down vote on the deal - do MPs want to respect the referendum like they claim to... or do they want to frustrate and cancel Brexit altogether?” If the Speaker does allow the … [Read more...] about Brexit LIVE: Bercow holds fate of Oct31 exit in hands – decision over deal vote IMMINENT
LONDON (AP) -- Two British Cabinet ministers, including Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, resigned Thursday in opposition to the divorce deal struck by Prime Minister Theresa May with the EU -- a major blow to her authority and her ability to get the deal through Parliament. A defiant May insisted Brexit meant making "the right choices, not the easy ones" and urged lawmakers to support the deal "in the national interest." "The choice is clear," May told lawmakers. "We can choose to leave with no deal. We can risk no Brexit at all. Or we can choose to unite and support the best deal that can be negotiated -- this deal." But the resignations, less than a day after the Cabinet collectively backed the draft divorce agreement, weakens May and is likely to embolden her rivals within her Conservative Party. A leadership challenge is being openly discussed. "I cannot in good conscience support the terms proposed for our deal with the EU," Raab said in a resignation letter to the prime minister. … [Read more...] about Brexit: European Union divorce deal in peril after UK Cabinet ministers quit

Government officials are preparing to deal with “putrefying stockpiles” of rubbish in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to documents leaked to The Guardian. If the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without a deal on March 29, export licenses for millions of tons of waste will become invalid overnight. Environment Agency (EA) officials said leaking stockpiles could cause pollution. The EA is also concerned that if farmers cannot export beef and lamb, a backlog of livestock on farms could cause liquid manure stores to overflow. A senior member of Parliament said the problems could cause a public health and environmental pollution emergency. “It could all get very ugly, very quickly.” – Environment Agency source The emails leaked to the Guardian were sent to EA staff members, asking for 42 volunteers to staff crisis management centers that would deal with incidents.
