Roquan Smith might not have signed a deal with the Bears, but he’s already cashing in on jersey sales. Despite the Bears first-rounder unsigned status and absence from training camp, Smith is still one of the team’s most popular players. Smith, the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, is the third-most popular Bears jersey and No. 16 best-selling jersey among the league’s defensive players, according to a DICK’S Sporting Goods jersey report. Mitch Trubisky, who has the fifth-most popular jersey overall in the NFL, leads the team in merchandise sales. Wide receiver Allen Robinson has the second-most popular on the team (No. 61 overall).Smith’s jersey being popular is sort of silly in a sense. He’s missed five practices as of Wednesday — and will likely miss more — due to a contract impasse. As the Sun-Times previously reported, the sides remain at a stalemate regarding the finer details of the contract that is expected to pay Smith … [Read more...] about Roquan Smith is Bears’ third-most popular jersey despite his unsigned status

In March, NFL teams buy. In April, leading up to the draft, they lie. Then they spend the next two months talking about how optimistic they are. Bears fans, then, could be forgiven for raising their eyebrows every time they heard players sound downright giddy — about new coach Matt Nagy’s offense, quarterback Mitch Trubisky’s growth and even the return of orange jerseys — during offseason practices. Previous players have made similar claims: about Marc Trestman’s brilliance and John Fox’s professionalism, about Jay Cutler’s leadership and Mike Glennon’s long-awaited opportunity. For a franchise that has won barely more than one out of every three games in the last five years, blind hope in June has amounted to little else. Still, there’s no doubting the genuine excitement that crackled through Halas Hall before players broke for summer vacation Thursday.“It feels good,” right tackle Bobby Massie said. “This team … [Read more...] about As Bears break for summer, they ‘feel the new energy’ of the Matt Nagy era
Tom Brady's No. 12 jersey topped the NFL Players Association's Top 50 Sales List for the second time in three years. The leader of The Evil Empire is once again the league's most popular player, but where do the Jets and Giants stack up? Believe it or not, only two Jets and Giants players were among the top 50 officially licensed jerseys sold from March 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018. And none of them wore green and white. Sorry Jamal Adams and Leonard Williams fans. No Jets made the list. Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was seventh. Two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Eli Manning barely made the cut at No. 49. Brady was among 18 quarterbacks, including six in the Top 10. Only four defensive players made the list, including Steelers rookie linebacker T.J. Watt. Here's the complete list: 1. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots 2. Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys 3. Carson Wentz, QB, Philadelphia Eagles 4. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys 5. Antonio Brown, WR, … [Read more...] about Only two Giants and Jets players make the Top 50 NFL jersey sales list
Brad Biggs answers your Bears questions weekly. What would be best for Bears? Three or four quarterbacks go in top seven picks and thus a stud is available at No. 8. Or only one or two QBs go in the top seven so two are still available and the Bears have better chance to trade down? — @sezshwonI don’t think there is any question that the best scenario for the Bears is for four quarterbacks to come off the board in the first seven picks. That would give the Bears the fourth selection of a non-QB in the draft and give them a shot at a really good player. There’s no telling what the offer would be, if any, to move down from No. 8 in the scenario you outlined. The Bears are hopeful there is a big-time run on quarterbacks to open the draft. They’ve got to be prepared for all possibilities, though. Why did the Bears make Cameron Meredith an RFA (restricted free agent) tender if they were worried about his knee? — @halasbearreportThat’s a fair question after … [Read more...] about Bears Q&A: What are the best scenarios for the first round of the draft? Why did the Bears tender Cameron Meredith?
Bears Chairman George McCaskey sat with reporters in the Florida sun Wednesday afternoon and spoke of why he believes brighter days are ahead in Chicago. The Bears went 5-11 last season and have just eight victories to their name over the last two years, but McCaskey pointed to new coach Matt Nagy as a reason for optimism.Speaking on the final day of the NFL meetings at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, McCaskey said his trust in general manager Ryan Pace drives his trust that Nagy is the right man for the job.“The biggest reason is because Ryan believes in him so strongly,” McCaskey said. “He’s just very impressive from the get-go. You've seen it already — very dynamic presence, very confident leader, an innovator.
