More than 11 million families are at risk of losing housing when federal coronavirus eviction and foreclosure protections expire later this year, according to a report released Monday by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Analyzing private sector and federal data, the CFPB found that 2.1 million homeowners are at least 90 days behind on mortgage payments and 8.8 million households are behind on rent. Some homeowners and renters who’ve been unable to cover housing payments due to coronavirus-related expenses have been able to avoid homelessness thanks to a patchwork of federal and state bans on evictions and foreclosures. Millions of homeowners have also opted into forbearance to delay mortgage payments for several months. ADVERTISEMENT But the CFPB warned that those families, while safe for now, will face housing insecurity when protections expire and the bill for missed rent or mortgage payments comes due. “Put simply: we have very little time to … [Read more...] about More than 11 million households face homelessness when COVID-19 protections expire: report

Deadline Approaching For Small Businesses To Apply For Priority Paycheck Protection Loans
HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Small businesses have just over a week left to apply for another round of loans from the Paycheck Protection Program to keep their employees paid during the pandemic. The smallest businesses get priority this time around. But CBS2’s Carolyn Gusoff reported many small business owners are unaware. A sprawling space in Hempstead would have been filled with children learning about science, technology and math. Instead, it’s been empty for a year. “When COVID-19 hit, everything stopped. US Marshals are keeping criminals off the streets and protecting children
Dontae Green was an armed security guard who shot at police, fled and became a wanted man. The attack , plus a host of other charges, made him a high-risk fugitive. Green was clearly dangerous — the Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force (FTF) was sent to find him and during his arrest he shot a deputy marshal. Yet, as a recent article points out, the FTF are painted in the light of rogue cowboys who shoot people with no accountability. In 1789, the Marshals Service was created by Congress to support the courts and carry about any orders issued by a federal judge. At the time, the nation was still expanding and often the only “law” in the territories of the nation was the federal governments — enforced by the U.S. Marshal. As the nation and Marshals … [Read more...] about US Marshals are keeping criminals off the streets and protecting children
Sens. Cotton & Romney: Raise minimum wage, but not to $15 – our compromise bill protects workers, businesses
close Video Sen. Tom Cotton proposes $10 minimum wage to be phased in after pandemic Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., discusses his proposal and weighs in on the proposed COVID-19 stimulus bill on ‘America Reports.’ Americans deserve a raise , but a number of obstacles stand between our poorest workers and a bigger paycheck. First, Americans have to compete for jobs against millions of illegal immigrants . This competition lowers wages for some and shuts others out of work altogether. Second, Congress hasn’t increased the federal minimum wage in more than 10 years, when it was raised to $7.25 an hour. Inflation has since eroded the value of that wage by almost 25%, so Americans working full time at a minimum-wage job can buy less with their paycheck today than they could a decade ago. REP. KEVIN McCARTHY: DEMS' $1.9 TRILLION COVID BILL IS NOT RESCUE OR RELIEF PLAN, IT'S A PELOSI PAYOFF Third, many Democrats are hung up on … [Read more...] about Sens.
