Authorities say a 33-year-old service worker who was struck by a vehicle after he fixed a flat tire alongside Interstate 40 in Conway died days later from his injuries. Arkansas State Police said Kennith Weldon-Trase Ellis of Leslie was struck by a westbound Nissan about 2 a.m. on Aug. 12 shortly after he repaired the flat tire of a tractor trailer along the interstate near U.S. 64. According to a preliminary report, the Nissan "traveled from the right lane and entered the westbound entrance ramp" before hitting Ellis and his parked service truck. Ellis was taken to UAMS Medical Center, where he died on Wednesday from his injuries, an official with the Pulaski County coroner's office said. No one else was listed as being hurt in the wreck. The report didn't identify the Nissan driver. Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry. At least 300 people have died in traffic crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures. Tractor trailer tire repair
Posted by Brendon Serritella on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A truck tire that came loose started chain of mishaps that led to the shut down of the Northway for five hours Tuesday evening, State police said. Troopers said that at about 5:50 p.m. a tractor-trailer driven by Jason J. Greenfield, 40, of Pine Knot, Ky, was heading north when a front tire came off the rig, causing Greenfield to lose control and overcorrect. The 2000 Volvo with flatbed trailer, hauling six small utility trailers, went off the road, struck a guardrail end and bridge overpass railing on the shoulder at exit 15, and caught fire. It continued across all three lanes and left the western shoulder, striking an earth embankment and landing in a ditch. Greenfield was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with a possible broken arm and burns to his arm. Transportation and Environmental Conservation department officials responded, since the bridge damage required repairs and about 50 gallons of … [Read more...] about Northway truck accident caused by tire coming off

The Waterbury Mixmaster — as the junction of Route 8 and I-84 is called — will eventually come down, the governor has said. But before it comes down, it must be propped up: The bridges’ concrete decks are cracking, their steel corroded, and the piers that support them are in need of repair.Last month, the Department of Transportation awarded a Chicago construction company a $153 million contract to rehabilitate the Mixmaster’s bridges, wringing another 25 years of life from the heavily traveled interchange but also adding to Waterbury’s well-known traffic woes. Walsh Construction Company, which beat out five other bidders, will begin in May to overhaul 10 bridges that weave over, duck under and crisscross one another. The renovations will take place just a few miles from an ongoing, $298 million project to widen a section of I-84 east of Waterbury. Commuting through Waterbury — already a slog with the I-84 widening project — is expected to … [Read more...] about Mixmaster Bridge Project Could Cause New Traffic Headaches In Waterbury
