I'm not sure what's more surprising: that this week's Toyota Camry tester boasts over 300 horsepower or that it has a sticker price of more than $39,000. Either way, this is not your Aunt Bessie's Camry — unless your Aunt Bessie had a lead foot and likes to party in the infield at Talladega. This is a full-on, near-luxury sports sedan meant to fill the performance niche in the vast Camry line. Even my sons, ages 11 and 16, who grew up riding in a series of Camrys, marveled as this car's sporty stance and menacing face and rump. There's something shark-like about its aggressive air intakes, Celestial Silver paint, black roof, quad exhausts and red leather interior. The red and black interior in the 2018 Toyota Camry XSE adds to the sports car vibe. The red and black interior in the 2018... Photo by Contributed Photo /Times Free Press. Court case costs ex-Martin commissioner 2004 Toyota Camry, two kayaks
Janet Reno’s old kayak and a 2004 Toyota Camry were seized in Stuart this week as a billionaire-backed mining company pursues a $4.4 million judgement against Reno’s sister, former Martin County commissioner Maggy Hurchalla.Former Martin County Commissioner Maggy Hurchalla takes notes during a Senate Select Committee Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin Hearing at the Charles and Rae Kane center in Stuart on August 22, 2013. (Richard Graulich/The Palm Beach Post) The bluish-hued kayak, bought in 1996 by Hurchalla so she and Reno could paddle the Potomac River when Reno was U.S. Attorney General, was one of two taken from Hurchalla’s yard Monday by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The seizures are the latest twist in a years-long court battle brought by Lake Point Restoration, which is co-owned by former Wellington resident and one-time Olympic equestrian hopeful George Lindemann, Jr., against the 77-year-old Hurchalla. 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Toyota is the industry leader in many areas; one of them is in the sale of hybrids. And as the automaker continues to produce hybrids they get incrementally better. I had the new Toyota Camry Hybrid for a week last winter and found it surprisingly capable. Unforeseen by me was the oomph that this car made. Hybrids are notoriously slow. But the 2018 Camry Hybrid had a little bit of kick when I stepped on the accelerator. It was powered by a 2.5 liter four cylinder engine that made 176 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. There was an electric motor that made 118 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque. Toyota still uses a Nickel-Metal Hydride battery in the Camry Hybrid which made a combined 208 horsepower. It was mated to a continuously variable transmission. The few times I got the chance to get down on the accelerator, the Camry Hybrid responded with authority. I’m not saying it burned rubber but it could move relatively quickly when needed. It snowed during my test drive … [Read more...] about 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Honda Clarity Plug-in vs. Toyota Camry Hybrid
None The Honda Clarity Plug-in, left, and Toyota Camry Hybrid are similarly priced (loaded) at $37,000, including safety assist systems, big trunks and plenty of interior space. The Camry hybrid boasts longer range on a tank of gas, but the Clarity will get 50 miles on battery power alone. Toyota Camry Hybrid returns for 2018 with the same makeover as the Camry
The Toyota Camry Hybrid gets most of the same upgrades as the redesigned gasoline-only Camry sedan for 2018. This is the midlevel SE model, which comes with a nickel-metal-hydride battery pack. EPA ratings are 44 mpg city/47 highway/46 combined. By EMMA JAYNE WILLIAMS The Toyota Camry Hybrid – essentially the same midsize sedan as the best-selling Camry, with comfortable seating for up to five, quiet interior, and unassuming performance, but with electrons – has been completely redesigned for 2018. Notable changes include improved fuel economy, sleeker styling, and additional standard safety features. An updated version of the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor (208 total horsepower, ECO, Normal, Sport and EV drive modes) powers all three hybrid versions of Camry, with tweaks providing a jump in fuel economy and a small increase in power. All 2018 Camrys have a new stylish exterior, a visual departure from previous generations. Hybrid versions … [Read more...] about Toyota Camry Hybrid returns for 2018 with the same makeover as the Camry
