By Michael Hurley , CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — Here’s a fun one. (Well, it’s still not fun if you’re from New England, but it’s fun for the rest of football fans.) READ MORE: Life Threatening Injuries After Several People Hit On High Street In Boston While we know now that Tom Brady left the Patriots last year and surprised everybody by joining up with Bruce Arians and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped a little nugget this week that indicates Brady could have ended up with the New Orleans Saints. That possibility obviously closed when Drew Brees decided to return for his age 41 season. “Lo and behold, [Brees] came back in March. And by the way, if he hadn’t come back, I really believe that there’s a chance that Tom Brady would’ve been the Saints’ quarterback this year, and he would’ve been playing in New Orleans, not Tampa,” Schefter said on The Rich Eisen Show. “But that’s a different story.” Schefter was talking about Brees and the … [Read more...] about Schefter: Tom Brady Might Have Joined Saints If Drew Brees Had Retired

BOSTON (CBS) — Coming off his record seventh Super Bowl win, Tom Brady will return to the NFL in 2021 for his age 44 season. And despite the fact that most players are long retired by the time they hit 40, there’s an indication that Brady won’t be stopping any time soon. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht kept that potential alive this week, saying on The Rich Eisen Show that it’s possible that Tampa Bay may work out a contract extension for the ageless quarterback. READ MORE: Former State Rep. David Nangle Pleads Guilty To Fraud Charges “That’s a possibility,” Licht said when asked about a possible extension. “He certainly didn’t look like he slowed down any this year. So that’s a possibility. And we’ll have to see how that goes.” Brady signed a two-year deal worth $53.375 million as a free agent last year, and he’ll carry a $28.375 million cap hit in 2021. An extension could lower that number in the short term, which could help a Buccaneers team that is set to lose … [Read more...] about A Tom Brady Contract Extension Is ‘Possible,’ Says Buccaneers GM Jason Licht
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — On a gorgeous 76-degree day in the desert, Brendan Rodgers sat in the shade, looking fit and relaxed and bubbling with confidence as he discussed the season ahead. “You haven’t seen me, be me. I’m ready to be me and get out there and show people what I’m capable of,” Rodgers said Tuesday after the Rockies’ first full-squad workout of spring training. The Rockies would rejoice should that come to pass. Rodgers, after all, was the third overall pick of the 2015 draft out of Lake Mary High School in Florida. He received a $5.5 million signing bonus at age 18. At the time, Rodgers said he wanted to make the majors by age 21. He almost reached that goal, but so far, he’s been more about potential than performance. Since making his big-league debut on May 17, 2019, at age 22, he’s hit .196 with a .235 on-base percentage in 97 at-bats over 32 games. He has yet to hit a home run. Injuries, most crucially a torn labrum in his right shoulder that required … [Read more...] about Rockies’ Brendan Rodgers knows it’s time to fulfill his potential
Tiger Woods suffered what could be career-ending leg injuries following a horrific car crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. — a stunning incident that dominated the news cycle Tuesday, on a level not seen since last January’s fatal helicopter crash in California that included NBA great Kobe Bryant and his daughter among its victims. Even on a day when COVID-19 deaths continued to climb beyond a half-million Americans and when Congress held hearings about what went wrong in the fatal Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, the public's fascination with all things celebrity once again ruled the airwaves. Even former President Trump Donald Trump Romney: 'Pretty sure' Trump would win 2024 GOP nomination if he ran for president Pence huddles with senior members of Republican Study Committee Trump says 'no doubt' Tiger Woods will be back after accident MORE called in to Fox News’ PrimeTime at 7 p.m. program to talk about Woods, not politics. Woods effectively stopped time … [Read more...] about Tiger’s crash trumps the news cycle, but is his career over?
BOSTON (CBS) — Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be visiting the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in the 2021 season. For that game and the other seven home dates on the Patriots’ schedule, the team is “very optimistic” that fans will be allowed to attend — at full capacity. The Patriots sent a letter to season ticket holders this week, in which they extended the deadline for season ticket renewals due to the ongoing uncertainty presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the letter began with a strong note of optimism. The Patriots cited “the success of sporting events at other large outdoor venues across the country” as evidence that their reopening plan can be successful and safe.
