11:50 a.m. China lying about COVID-19 cases and deaths, report says: U.S intelligence officials briefed the White House on China’s efforts to suppress the number of positive cases of COVID-19 and resulting deaths, according to a Bloomberg report. The classified report to the president concluded the numbers China has been reporting are “fake.” Numerous U.S. officials have scoffed at China’s coronavirus reporting, which has drawn down sharply in recent weeks. China added a little more than “1,500 asymptomatic cases” to the country’s total on Tuesday, Bloomberg reported. A database compiled by Johns Hopkins University currently notes China as having 82,361 cases and 3,316 deaths. However, the country reported more than 80,000 cases as far back as March 2. The reduced death toll would be equally remarkable considering China surpassed 3,000 people killed by the virus on March 7.
