IONE, Amador County (CBS SF) — Notorious serial killer Roger Reece Kibbe, known as the infamous “I-5 Strangler” who pleaded guilty to raping and murdering six victims including two East Bay women, has died in an attack at Mule Creek State Prison, authorities announced Monday. State prison officials said that an officer conducting institution population counts discovered Kibbe lying unresponsive on the floor of his cell at approximately 12:40 a.m. Sunday. His cellmate, Jason Budrow, was standing near his body. IONE (CBS13) — The notorious serial killer Roger Kibbe was allegedly attacked and killed by his cellmate at Mule Creek State Prison over the weekend. Early Sunday morning, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) says a correctional officer was doing a population count at the prison when inmate Jason Budrow was spotted standing in his cell with Kibbe unresponsive on the floor. California ‘I-5 Strangler’ Serial Killer Found Strangled to Death in Cell
A serial killer who raped and strangled at least seven women was found strangled to death in a California state prison, officials announced Wednesday. Roger Reece Kibbe, 81, nicknamed the “I-5 Strangler” in the 1970s and 1980s, was found dead in his cell Sunday at Mule Creek State Prison, located southeast of Sacramento, KSWB reported . Kibbe’s 40-year-old cellmate was standing nearby. An autopsy showed the 81-year-old had been strangled, and the Amador County Sheriff’s Office is ruling the death a homicide. Kibbe was initially sentenced to 25 years to life in May 1991 for murdering a 17-year-old Seattle runaway. He pleaded guilty to six additional killings going back to 1977 after DNA evidence linked the killings to him. A judge sentenced Kibbe to six additional life sentences for those murders.
