Identity theft is a sad fact of life in America and threatens you when you shop online, reply to emails, use Wi-Fi outside your home and even take out your garbage. The potential threat to your savings is growing: The Federal Trade Commission reports ID theft complaints jumped about 20% in 2018 and were responsible for a big chunk of the nearly $1.5 billion that Americans said they lost to fraud last year. As with other types of crime, your risk of becoming an identity theft victim depends on your location. In some states and cities, identity thieves are far more likely to prey on a person's good name than in others. What about where you live? The Potential Threat is Growing Well, out of nearly 400 of the largest U.S. metro areas, the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metropolitan area ranks No. 38 for identity theft, according to the FTC. Photo: Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images As President Trump faces impeachment proceedings following his Ukrainian whistle-blower scandal, one has to wonder where his hot-and-cold relationship currently stands with Rudy Giuliani. Now, a report from the Washington Post reveals just how chaotic Giuliani’s actions were within the administration — and just how much of the current impeachment crisis Trump is facing can be sourced back to his personal lawyer. “Rudy — he did all of this,” one U.S. official told the Post. “This shitshow that we’re in — it’s him … [Read more...] about Trump’s Ukraine Problem Stems From a Rudy Giuliani Problem
Car theft isn't nearly as bad a problem as it was way back in the early 1990s, when more than 1.5 million vehicles a year were being stolen off U.S. streets. Today, there are fewer than half as many, thanks to increased vigilance, stepped-up law enforcement and technological advances. But when you own a car, you still can't afford to let your guard down, especially not in certain cities. The National Insurance Crime Bureau is out with its annual "Hot Spots" report ranking hundreds of U.S. metro areas by their rates of auto theft. Communities saw up to 780 car thefts last year for every 100,000 of their residents, the NICB says. You probably had to work hard and save a lot for your set of wheels, so you don't want to let your car fall into a thief's clutches. Read on to learn how common vehicle theft is in Naperville, and get some tips to protect your cherished "baby." The lowdown on car theft in Naperville The NICB has calculated auto theft rates using 2018 data from the National Crime … [Read more...] about Is Naperville One of the ‘Hot Spots’ for Car Theft?
