Trump impeachment trial: Rioters acted on Trump’s “orders,” Democrats say

WASHINGTON — House Democrats prosecuting Donald Trump’s impeachment said Thursday the Capitol invaders believed they were acting on “the president’s orders” and reflected his violent rhetoric when they set out to storm the building and stop the joint session of Congress that was certifying Democrat Joe Biden’s election. The prosecutors were wrapping up their opening presentation, describing in stark, personal terms the horror they faced that day and unearthing the many public and explicit instructions Trump gave his supporters — both in the weeks before the Jan. 6 attack and at his midday rally that unleashed the mob on the Capitol. Videos of rioters, some posted to social medial by themselves, talked about how they were doing it all for Trump. “We were invited here,” said one. “Trump sent us,” said another. “He’ll be happy. We’re fighting for Trump.” Five people died. “They truly believed that the whole intrusion was at the president’s orders,” said Rep. Diana DeGette of … [Read more...] about Trump impeachment trial: Rioters acted on Trump’s “orders,” Democrats say

Amazon To Pay $61.7 Million For Allegedly Keeping Tips From Delivery Drivers

Amazon will pay $61.7 million after being accused of withholding tips from their Amazon Flex delivery drivers, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced Tuesday. The Amazon Flex program allows drivers who are classified as independent contractors to deliver goods using their own vehicles. Amazon repeatedly advertised that drivers would be paid between $18 and $25 an hour in addition to keeping 100% of customer tips, the FTC complaint alleges. Customers were also told that the drivers would keep 100% of the tips, according to the complaint. “Rather than passing along 100 percent of customers’ tips to drivers, as it had promised to do, Amazon used the money itself,” Acting Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection Daniel Kaufman claimed in a statement . ‘My Income Has Dropped To Zero’: About 45% Of Small Businesses Risk Closure Within Months

At least 13.9 million of the nation’s small businesses are at serious risk of shuttering their doors by April 1, a recent industry report found. Forty-four percent of the country’s 31.7 million small businesses are at risk of closing by the end of the first quarter, according to small business group Alignable . Small businesses on the brink of closure expect to earn less revenue than their owners estimate is needed to stay afloat. “Customer confidence in their future cash flow is low right now,” a surveyed small business owner said, according to Alignable. “And so discretionary spending, which our business is based on, is significantly restricted. We need customer confidence to elevate to bring them back and make them feel comfortable spending their money.” “My income has dropped to zero,” another small business owner said. Kroger Closing Ralph’s And Food 4 Less In Long Beach Saturday Over Hero Pay Law

LONG BEACH (CBSLA) —Kroger is closing two of its stores, Ralph’s and Food 4 Less, on Saturday after the City of Long Beach mandated that the company pay employees $4 extra an hour in “hero pay” amid the coronavirus pandemic. As customers came by the store on Saturday, there wasn’t much left to buy and the shelves were visibly empty, but people in the neighborhood said they wanted to shop there one more time. “I came to get the last minute deals and say goodbye to the store,” shopper Nick Savala told CBSLA’s Joy Benedict. “It’s almost like you’re losing a part of your family because you get to recognize the faces you see when you come shopping. So, it’s a real bummer.” Santiago Vasquez has been working the Ralph’s part-time for about a year, handling pick up orders and helping out in the meat department. He said all of his coworkers were offered jobs, some of them in nearby stores. But Velasquez said the offer of a transfer didn’t make much sense for him. “I was offered to stay … [Read more...] about Kroger Closing Ralph’s And Food 4 Less In Long Beach Saturday Over Hero Pay Law
