President Biden, along with leading Democrats on Capitol Hill, started the year with the choice between two paths to govern. The first route, which I have strongly urged my party to take, is characterized with bipartisanship. Democrats carry this incredible opportunity to consolidate their power by reaching out to moderate Republicans to achieve legislative compromises at a time when Republicans are deeply fractured. This route would lead to further friction, however, with the growing progressive wing. It is clear that Biden and Democrats have chosen the second route, which involves embracing liberal policies and using their power to push through a progressive agenda without any support from Republicans. While it may lead to legislative wins, it will do away with the promise of Biden to reach across the aisle and adds the risk of potential losses in 2022. The decision to govern this way has now elevated Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia to one of the most notable positions … [Read more...] about The progressive takeover of Democratic Party continues

Photo: JLN Photography/Shutterstock When former White House press secretary and longtime political operative Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced her much-expected bid for the Arkansas governorship her father held for 11 years, what do you suppose she talked about doing in her fine corner of the heartland? Maybe improving the schools? Promoting economic development? Modernizing state agencies? Building some roads? These are all kinds of messaging Republicans have traditionally found acceptable in state government, as opposed to Democratic agenda items like expanding health-care coverage and fighting poverty and protecting the environment and so forth. But no. Here’s her “elevator pitch” to Arkansans: With the radical left now in control of Washington, your governor is your last line of defense. As governor, I will defend your right to be free of socialism and tyranny. Your Second Amendment right to keep your family safe and your freedom of speech and … [Read more...] about Is ‘Anti-Wokeness’ the New Ideology of the Republican Party?
Liberal control over Congress has already resulted in a number of measures that shift state and local autonomy to bureaucrats in Washington. The original framework and function of the Constitution is slipping away into increasing federal control of elections, taxation, and other aspects of American life. The sudden concentration of power goes well beyond the federalization of regional governments. Increasing national control through direct and indirect means has more in common with nationalization a banana republic may use to control foreign-owned industry, in this case, seizing locally controlled political power and putting it in the power of national agencies. Most Americans associate the nearly $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill with $1,400 stimulus checks, but the legislation also grows federal influence by giving Washington a significant level of control over state budgets. Governors who made poor decisions for years, burdening their states with bloated pensions and public … [Read more...] about Democrats are seeking to turn the nation into one massive blue state

Photo: Civis Analytics/YouTube Trouble found Sunny Rao early the morning of October 30. By the time the Washington State–based data scientist woke up, the group text she shared with several co-workers at the Democratic data firm Civis Analytics had already begun to buzz. “Someone said that they had been fired,” she recalls. Worried, Rao tried to log in to her work computer, only to find it locked. Then she checked her email, and there it was, the news she’d feared: She was terminated effective immediately. No one “even met with me to tell me that I was getting fired or why,” she tells Intelligencer. Across the country, her co-worker Sarah Klem says she panicked once she got the same bad news. Her health insurance would expire the very next day. “I realized it was the end of the month. I went to the pharmacy to refill a prescription for chronic meds and get my … [Read more...] about Democratic Firm Is Accused of Firing Workers for Speaking Up
Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) voted in Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga as its new party leader Monday following the resignation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in late August. Suga won by a wide margin in Monday’s inter-party election , securing roughly 70% of the 534 votes cast by LDP lawmakers and party representatives from across the county, The Japan Times reported . He is expected to become prime minister following a parliamentary vote Wednesday as the LDP holds a majority of seats in Japan’s National Diet. WATCH: The 71-year-old cabinet secretary has been a longtime ally of Abe, who stepped down following health complications. His election indicates that the LDP will pick up where Abe left off in a gesture that largely appeals to the country’s political establishment, according to The New York Times. “We need to inherit and facilitate policies promoted by Prime Minister Abe in order for us to overcome this crisis and for each and … [Read more...] about Japan’s Ruling Party Elects New Leader To Replace Shinzo Abe As Prime Minister
