0 Crime & Safety Crystal Lake Police Department officers found the heroin in the center console of his car after pulling him over last year, authorities said Lake and McHenry County Scanner , News Partner Posted Reply By Sam Borcia, Lake & McHenry County Scanner An Antioch man was convicted by a jury on Tuesday of possessing almost 60 bags of heroin which were recovered during a traffic stop search in Crystal Lake. Derek Schwantner, 33, of Antioch, was found guilty of unlawful possession with intent to deliver heroin, a Class 1 felony, and possession of heroin, a Class 4 felony. Schwantner was pulled over by officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department on August 9, 2021. Prosecutors said the man had no driver’s license or insurance. A search of Schwantner’s vehicle revealed that he had 55 bags of heroin in the center console, prosecutors said. The Illinois Way Forward Act prohibits jails in Illinois from housing ICE detainees. It went into effect on January 1. Senate Bill 667 — also called the Illinois Way Forward Act — was passed 36-19 in May 2021 and signed into law by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker in August 2021. SB 667 says that no law enforcement agency and state or local government may enter into or renew any contract to hold or detain someone for federal immigration violations. The book drive resulted in more than 800 diverse books, including many bilingual books, for K-5 grade students at North Elementary in Waukegan. Lake and McHenry County Scanner , News Partner Posted Reply By Sam Borcia, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner County officials say a stretch of Monaville Road in Lake Villa is expected to reopen next week after crews closed the road for an emergency culvert repair almost two months ago. The culvert is located on Monaville Road just west of Cedar Lake Road in Lake Villa. Signs of a potential culvert failure were noticed on April 13 during a routine road inspection by Lake County Division of Transportation maintenance personnel. The Lake County Division of Transportation closed Monaville Road to through traffic from Fairfield Road to Cedar Lake Road. A signed detour was put into place while repairs were being scheduled, officials said.
