The Cleveland Browns surprised a lot of draft experts by selecting Baker Mayfield as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The former Oklahoma standout is obviously the future of the franchise, but some feel he is ready to step in and start at quarterback right away. Still, Mayfield is just a rookie and trotting him out before he's ready could be disastrous to his professional development. What do you think? PERSPECTIVES With all the hoopla surrounding Josh Allen, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen, Mayfield snuck his way into the Browns' hearts at the No.1 draft spot. Not that it should be surprising; Mayfield was the Heisman Trophy winner after all. The University of Oklahoma star showed accuracy last year with the Sooners, completing 70.5 percent of his passes and throwing 43 touchdowns. But it is his improvisation and leadership that make him a special prospect. Tyrod Taylor is solid, but he's not the star Mayfield already is. He is ready to start. Mayfield may be the … [Read more...] about Should Baker Mayfield start for the Cleveland Browns?

Louisiana-Lafayette’s Simeon Thomas taken in 6th round by the Cleveland Browns
Louisiana-Lafayette defensive back Simeon Thomas was selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Saturday when he was picked by the Cleveland Browns. He's the second Ragin' Cajuns player to be selected after safety Tracy Walker was picked in the third round. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Thomas began his career with the Cajuns in 2013 but sat out 2015 because of academic issues. When he returned to the field in 2016, he established himself with seven starts in 13 games. He finished that season with 40 tackles, two interceptions, five pass break-ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. In 2017, Thomas finished with 42 tackles, three tackles for a loss and 12 passes defensed in nine games. … [Read more...] about Louisiana-Lafayette’s Simeon Thomas taken in 6th round by the Cleveland Browns

Credit: Jack Westerheide | Photo Editor Ohio State continues to churn out first-round cornerbacks. Former Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward has been drafted with the fourth pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Ward was the first Buckeye taken in the draft, and is the third Ohio State cornerback to be drafted within the top 15 picks in the last three years. Ohio State saw former corner Marshon Lattimore picked by the New Orleans Saints at 11th and Gareon Conley to the Oakland Raiders at 24th in 2017. Eli Apple was selected 10th overall by the New York Giants in 2016. The former Buckeye was a consensus All-American last season and finished his junior year with 15 passes defended and 37 tackles to go along with a pair of interceptions. Ward led an Ohio State secondary … [Read more...] about Football: Denzel Ward selected No. 4 overall by the Cleveland Browns
What the Cleveland Browns should do with their first five picks in the NFL Draft: Doug Lesmerises
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With five picks in the first two rounds, the Cleveland Browns have the opportunity to own the 2018 NFL Draft. There are so many ways the Browns could get this right, counting up the possibilities would set your calculator on fire. As long as they are confident with the quarterback they choose at No. 1, and as long as they are dedicated to maximizing their No. 4 pick, either through the choice of another game changer or a trade down, the chances of success are high. I'd be surprised if the Browns actually pick at the same five spots they currently occupy, at No. 1 and No. 4 in the first round and at No. 33, No. 35 and No. 64 in the second round. The chances to trade down and capitalize on the desperation of another team, or the chances to move up and target specific players they like, are too great. But where they sit right now, there are a bevy of running backs, cornerbacks, receivers and offensive tackles to choose in the second round. And there's a chance to … [Read more...] about What the Cleveland Browns should do with their first five picks in the NFL Draft: Doug Lesmerises
