(CBSDFW.COM) – A recent congressional report reveals that ingredients in many baby foods contain dangerously high levels of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, and cadmium. Released by a House of Representatives subcommittee led by Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi on Feb. 4, the report indicates levels that exceed the legal limits established by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization have declared toxic heavy metals dangerous to human health, particularly to babies and children, who are most vulnerable to their neurotoxic effects. Even low levels of exposure can cause serious and often irreversible damage to brain development. Arsenal of Military-Grade Firearms Found in Paris Suburbs
Investigators found an arsenal of so-called military-grade weapons including explosives and detonators in the Paris suburbs of Val-de-Marne after raiding a local drug trafficking network. The French anti-drug office OFAST came across the weapons in the commune of Limeil-Brévannes after dismantling the ten-man drug network, including Kalashnikov-type rifles, Heckler & Koch G3 rifles, M16 rifles, along with tripod stands and laser sighting equipment for the rifles. 16 magazines for the M16s were found along with 500 rounds of ammunition and a total of 1,300 cartridges of various calibres were found in the raid, French magazine Le Point reports . STANFORD (CBS SF/AP) — George Shultz, a career diplomat who held four Cabinet-level posts and a long-time San Francisco society figure along with his wife, Charlotte Mailliard, has died at his Stanford home at the age of 100. Stanford’s Hoover Institution, where Shultz was affiliated with after stepping down as secretary of state in 1989, announced the death. “Our colleague was a great American statesman and a true patriot in every sense of the word,” He will be remembered in history as a man who made the world a better place.” Condoleezza Rice, a fellow former Secretary of State and current director of the Hoover Institution, said in the release.
