Buttigieg Slams Hallmark For Removing Lesbian Ads: ‘Being “Family Friendly” Means Honoring Love’

2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg spoke out against the Hallmark Channel on Sunday for removing ads depicting lesbian couples. Buttigieg commented after the Hallmark Channel pulled four ads Thursday in which lesbian women are shown kissing one another at the altar. The ads were part of a series of six ads created for the wedding planning website Zola, first featured on the Hallmark Channel on Dec. 2.A spokesman for Hallmark told The New York Times the ads violated Hallmark’s rules on “public displays of affection.” “The decision not to air overt public displays of affection in our sponsored advertisement, regardless of the participants, is in line with our current policy, which includes not featuring political advertisements, offensive language, R-rated movie content and many other categories,” the spokesman told The NYT. Seattle Council Member Using Gov Resources To Organize Anti-Trump Protests

A Seattle city council member is openly using government resources to organize anti-Trump protests in collaboration with a radical socialist organization. Councilmember Kshama Sawant posted an open letter to her “fellow activists” on the City of Seattle’s taxpayer-funded website, urging participation in anti-Trump “Occupy Inauguration” protests organized by the Socialist Alternative Seattle. More than 3,500 people have already committed to joining the protests, according to the event’s Facebook page.“A right-wing anti-worker bigot has been elected President. Donald Trump’s cabinet is a who’s who of multi-billionaires with long records of hostility towards workers, the labor movement, women’s rights, and the planet,” Sawant charges in her letter, which was posted on New Years Eve. Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan tried to deliver a speech at Georgetown University Monday, but opted to walk out after immigration protesters repeatedly shouted at him and refused to let him speak. McAleenan was slated to deliver his keynote speech to the Georgetown University Immigration Law and Policy Conference on Monday morning. ICE Facilities To Receive Security Overhaul Following Violent Attacks

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan directed the Federal Protective Service to devise a plan to give additional security to ICE property across the country. The directive is in response to a growing number of attacks against ICE and other immigration agencies, such as a terrorist attack by an Antifa member, a shooting in San Antonio and Molotov cocktail attack in Florida. McAleenan wants a security plan presented to him within two weeks’ time.  Immigration and Customs Enforcement will soon beef up security at facilities in response to a recent slate of violence against the agency’s detention centers and offices across the country.
