Texas House Passes Bill to Abolish Concealed Permit Requirement
The Texas House passed legislation Thursday to abolish the state’s requirement that law-abiding citizens acquire a permit from the state before exercising their right to bear arms. CBS DFW reported that the House passed the legislation, House Bill 1927, on a vote of 84 to 56. HB 1927 is sponsored by State Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), who listened as State Rep. Joe Moody (D-El Paso) suggested that a permitless approach helps criminals. Schaefer responded, “Criminals don’t care about our gun laws and so they have an advantage over the vulnerable.” The Texas Tribune noted that Schaefer suggested the permit requirement creates a situation where self-defense can be cost prohibitive. DEL RIO, Texas — A law enforcement source, speaking on a condition of anonymity, reported the illegal local entry of 167 Venezuelan nationals early Friday morning. The group, consisting of mostly of family units, was quickly apprehended by Border Patrol and transported to nearby stations for processing. Texas Congressman Unveils Bill to Designate Certain Mexican Cartels as Terrorist Organizations
Texas Congressman Chip Roy (R) is expected to file a bill that would designate the most violent cartels in Mexico as foreign terrorist organizations. The bill comes amid Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s similar requests for the designations. The bill would focus on the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas and the Metros faction of the Gulf Cartel; the two main criminal organizations linked to the current immigration surge at the Texas border.
