An accidental home fire left a Texas family with nearly nothing salvaged from inside their home but could bounce back thanks to the surrounding community. “It’s crazy how it can happen in a blink of an eye, and everything you own is gone,” Derek Sykes, who lost his home in a fire, told TNN. Although the fire department has yet to determine the cause, Sykes and Michsella Ory believe the fire began in the fire pit. The Burkburnett Fire Department says five different agencies responded to the fire to get it under control. The family could make it out of the house safely along with their pets, and they are currently staying with family until they get back on their feet. Within minutes, word spread about the fire to neighbors, who quickly began donating. “The community has already reached out to the occupants to help them with some things as far as clothing and some other things,” said Harold Watkins, Fire Chief at Burkburnett Fire Department. Police Chase, Stash House Raids, Lead to Arrest of Dozens near Border in Texas
Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents arrested nearly four dozen migrants over the weekend. The arrests came following a police pursuit and raids on two human smuggling stash houses near the Texas border with Mexico. Webb County Constables Office Precinct 2 contacted Laredo South Station officials on the morning of February 26 about a vehicle that failed to yield. When the police pursuit ended, the driver and passengers jumped from the vehicle and fled, according to information obtained from Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials. The constable’s deputy chased down the driver, a U.S. citizen, while the Border Patrol agents rounded up ten illegal aliens, officials stated. The agents reported the migrants entered the U.S. after traveling from Guatemala and Mexico. Joe Biden Urges Americans to ‘Keep Wearing’ Masks After Texas Lifts Mandate
President Joe Biden urged Americans Monday to keep wearing their masks after Texas and Mississippi lifted their mask mandates. “Wear masks. Keep wearing them,” Biden said, adding, “Now is not the time to let our guard down.” Biden commented on masks just hours after Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his decision to lift that state’s mask mandate. During his speech at the White House, the president did not single out or criticize Texas for lifting its mandate, but he reminded Americans that he had asked everyone to wear a mask for his first 100 days in office. “I have to be honest with you. This fight is far from over,” he said. “I told you I’d be straight up with you from the beginning.” Biden reminded Americans that 511,839 had died from the virus, even as the vaccines for the virus were spreading across the country. “Now is not the time to let our guard down,” Biden said, waving his mask in front of the cameras. Federal health officials warned Monday that it was … [Read more...] about Joe Biden Urges Americans to ‘Keep Wearing’ Masks After Texas Lifts Mandate
Texas Governor Greg Abbott Ends Statewide Mask Mandate, Opens State 100%
LUBBOCK, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday afternoon that it’s time to open the state and end the mask mandate. “Under no circumstance can someone be punished for not wearing a mask,” he said during a news conference. By next Wednesday, March 2, all businesses of any time can open at 100%. He made the announcement from Lubbock on the same day Texas reported a new one day record for the number of people receiving vaccines — more than 216,000. “Within a few months, experts say every Texan who wants a vaccine, will be able to get a shot,” said Abbott. He said it’s safe to open Texas 100% because there are vaccines against COVID-19, medicines to treat those who get the virus, and there’s an abundance of COVID tests and PPE. “Today’s announcement ensures Texans can tap into their own self-reliance to seize the opportunities our state has to offer,” said Abbott as he ended his press conference. “God bless the State of Texas.” Thank you Texans for … [Read more...] about Texas Governor Greg Abbott Ends Statewide Mask Mandate, Opens State 100%
D.C. Officials, Activists Want Low-Income Housing in Mostly White Areas to Address Racism
Prosperous white neighborhoods in Northwest Washington, D.C., are the focus of an effort to install low-income housing into areas with mostly white residents as a way to make up for a racist past. The Washington Post reveals the left-wing ideology of forced diversity as social justice — “The Greater Good” — in a lengthy piece about using city zoning as a political tool: In an affluent White neighborhood in Northwest Washington, a volunteer task force wants to atone for the racist policies that forced black residents from their community a century ago. At another group’s Zoom meeting, the moderator talked of rewriting zoning policies to crack the “invisible walls” that have excluded blacks from their neighborhood. Their agenda, the moderator said, was to determine “what we can do to turn the tide against racism.” The fate of their campaign rests with the D.C. Council, which in the coming weeks will vote on Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s proposed changes to zoning policy. The … [Read more...] about D.C.
