A voiceover reads all of the things she is doing "now," like "Now, she's fallen into an online rabbit hole and is watching videos about the google-eyed stubby squid." Midway, Swift literally bumps into comedian Andy Samberg and the two exchange verbal jabs, with Swift calling him "Andy Sam-Jerk." The ACLU is defending a blogger after Taylor Swift and her attorney sent a cease and desist letter and threatened to sue PopFront editor Meghan Herning. PopFront published a blog post examining Swift's popularity with young members of the alt-right and referred to the singer as "an icon of white supremacist, nationalists, and other fringe groups." The ACLU of Northern California, where PopFront is based, announced on Monday that it sent a letter to Swift's attorney, refuting Swift's claims of defamation against PopFront. In the letter, attorneys from the ACLU said, "Ms. Herning and PopFront will not in any way accede to your attempt to suppress their constitutionally protected speech ... your claims that the blog post has defamed Ms. Swift are completely unsupported. If the blog post's interpretation of Ms. Swift's lyrics were defamatory, your letter's slanted interpretation of that post would be, too (and more so, since you misquote the post)." Last Updated Sep 14, 2009 10:13 AM EDT Kanye West engaging in one of the most noteworthy public disses ever, which happened last night at MTV's unfailingly controversial Video Music Awards. That clip shows West taking the mike from female video award winner Taylor Swift, and proclaiming that Beyonce, actually, had done one of the best videos ever. Swift is stunned into silence, as the crowd gives West a Bronx cheer. It's the kind of moment that sends you running to YouTube the second you hear about it, in this case, only to be disappointed. As Peter Kafka points out, where MTV is concerned, the absence of the official clip on YouTube is s due, specifically, to a lawsuit between Viacom and YouTube over copyrights, but that aside, it's still a common experience to find only unauthorized grainy clips of viral video phenomenon on YouTube, with the benefits only existing in the psychic reward unauthorized posters get from repeated viewings of the version of the clip that they posted. Last Updated Nov 3, 2014 5:08 PM EST Pop star Taylor Swift generates plenty of her own headlines for her music, but she's also entered the national political conversation by way of the Iowa Senate race.Retiring Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, a Democrat, invoked swift when talking about why he wouldn't support Republican candidate Joni Ernst in the upcoming midterm election."In this Senate race, I've been watching some of these ads. And there's sort of this sense that, 'Well, I hear so much about Joni Ernst. She is really attractive, and she sounds nice,'" Harkin said at an event for Story County Democrats, according to Buzzfeed, which obtained video. "I got to thinking about that. I don't care if she's as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she's wrong for the state of Iowa."The comment didn't sit well with Ernst, who told CBS News Affiliate KCCI, "It's very unfair for someone who is sitting in a United States senatorial seat to say … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Why is Taylor Swift part of the Iowa Senate race?
One of the most closely watched Grammy Awards categories Sunday will be best new artist. Among the past winners: Mariah Carey, Maroon 5 and Adele. The contenders this year include three sisters who make up the group Haim, an act keeping it all in the family, CBS News' Ben Tracy reports. Three women, three voices, one signature sound. Haim is their last name, and it's also the Hebrew word for "life." Right now, life for these three sisters, Alana, Danielle and Este, could not be any sweeter. "I'm speechless. It's been a crazy two years," Alana said. "Getting nominated for a Grammy is kind of the most crazy thing," Este said. "And we've had like a mini-freak out." The Haim sisters grew up in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. They owe their love of music to their parents -- amateur musicians who enlisted their girls into a family band. "We were called Rockinhaim. No 'g,' just Rockinhaim. One word," Alana said. "Basically we just played covers of songs we heard on the radio. And the … [Read more...] about Grammy-nominated Haim sisters on family band and Taylor Swift tour
Taylor Swift is signaling at least one clearly defined enemy in her new tour announcement: the hordes of bots and scalpers who snap up tickets before average consumers can buy them. In announcing her tour, Swift's website noted that the singer "is committed to getting tickets into the hands of fans ... NOT scalpers or bots." The singer said she worked with Ticketmaster to create a program that will help regular people get tickets. While that sounds like a great idea, the approach is ruffling feathers with some fans. That's because instead of using a program or AI to weed out bots, the system relies on asking fans to revisit her site and engage in activities such as watching videos or buying merchandise. Some fans applauded the idea, but others fumed at the approach. "It's like 'Do more for Taylor = better chance at tickets'," one fan wrote on Twitter. Other musicians have also tried to foil bots and scalpers with verification systems, but asking fans to buy … [Read more...] about Taylor Swift vows to foil ticket-buying bots ahead of tour
Taylor Swift shook off Apple and Spotify over music royalties, but now she's going after what may be a more difficult target: Chinese counterfeiters. If you're a Taylor Swift fan in China, there are two ways to get merchandise -- have someone buy it in the U.S. and ship it, or purchase a much cheaper counterfeit item. With this, the singer and businesswoman saw a problem -- and an opportunity, reports CBS News correspondent Seth Doane. "Nihao, it's Taylor Swift. Be sure to check out my new authentic 'merch,' now available in China," Swift can be seen saying in a commercial. The superstar's "merch," also known as merchandise, will be available via two Chinese online retailers. Anti-piracy tags will allow consumers to confirm it's the real deal. Appealing to her die-hard Chinese fans didn't take much more than a simple nihao, or hello. "When that video came out, I was like... Oh my God, Taylor said 'hi' to us in Chinese!" fan Kyle Zheng said. Seventeen-year-old Zheng, 19-year-old Zhang … [Read more...] about “Fakers gonna fake” Taylor Swift merch in China

Instagram Are we entering Taylor Swift's Hot Topic phase? "Look What You Made Me Do," the first single from Reputation, is a sleek and dark piece of electro-pop that swells and seethes. After celebrity feuds, media battles and even court cases, it confirms our suspicions that Swift is out for blood, but also makes us wonder who this song is for. This week's most popular viral videos include a flash mob for Betty White, a supermarket mascot dance, swinging on a bulldozer, playing the piano without hands, a police lip-sync sensation and turning a home into a ball pit. First up, TV Land celebrates the 93rd birthday of Hollywood icon Betty White with a surprise flash mob on the lot of her hit comedy "Hot in Cleveland." One can only assume that videos like this one from Maccen II are why the Internet was invented. Watch as this cow mascot boogies down in a grocery store.
