(CBS DETROIT) — An Oakland County Circuit judge on Friday granted a preliminary injunction that blocks prosecutors from enforcing Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban. Judge Jacob Cunningham blocked enforcement of the 1931 ban on Aug. 1 , just hours after the state Court of Appeals said county prosecutors were not covered by a May order and could enforce the prohibition following the fall of Roe v. Wade. David Kallman, an attorney representing two Republican county prosecutors, told the Associated Press that an appeal is planned. In a statement, Gov. Colorado Senate shakeup: Joe O’Dea responds to Sen. Bennet’s abortion attack ad as Democrat loses steam
close Video Republican Joe O’Dea responds to abortion attack ad in Colorado Senate race NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! DENVER – On the day political handicappers shifted the Colorado Senate race into a more winnable zone for Republicans, Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet released an attack ad that bewildered GOP nominee Joe O'Dea's campaign. Bennet released an ad Thursday attempting to paint O'Dea as someone who wants to ban all abortion. However, O'Dea, to the chagrin of some Colorado Republicans , is far more pro-choice than much of his party. "Michael Bennet has always fought for a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions, but Joe O'Dea opposes the law protecting abortion access in Colorado," one Coloradan said in Bennet's ad. "O'Dea would have voted to confirm Trump's Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade," another person says. "It's just not true," O'Dea said of Bennet's ad in an exclusive … [Read more...] about Colorado Senate shakeup: Joe O’Dea responds to Sen. Bennet’s abortion attack ad as Democrat loses steam
Judge: Prosecutors cannot enforce Michigan’s abortion ban
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan judge on Friday blocked county prosecutors from enforcing the state’s 1931 ban on abortion for the foreseeable future after two days of witness testimony from abortion experts, providers and the state’s chief medical officer. The ruling comes after the state Court of Appeals said earlier this month that county prosecutors were not covered by a May order and could enforce the prohibition following the fall of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court. “The harm to the body of women and people capable of pregnancy in not issuing the injunction could not be more real, clear, present and dangerous to the court,” Oakland County Judge Jacob Cunningham said during his ruling Friday. David Kallman, an attorney representing two Republican county prosecutors, said an appeal is planned. “The judge ignored all of the clear legal errors and problems in this case, it appears to me, simply because the issue is abortion,” Kallman told The Associated Press … [Read more...] about Judge: Prosecutors cannot enforce Michigan’s abortion ban

Gov. Cuomo Still Under Investigation After COVID-19 Book Lawsuit Victory
The New York State Supreme Court determined Tuesday that former Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo did not currently owe the government over $5 million he made off his book “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic”, which was allegedly produced partly using government funds, according to ABC News 10. Albany County Supreme Court Justice Denise Hartman ruled Tuesday that the now-defunct New York Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) lacked the authority to force Cuomo to pay for violating its rules without breaking statute and had not followed proper procedure in pursuing him, according to Politico . Cuomo sued in April after the JCOPE found off-duty state employees wrote at least some of the book and ordered him to repay its royalties, though he disputed the commission’s findings, News 10 reported . Panel rules Justice improperly withheld memo in Russia probe
The Justice Department under Attorney General William Barr improperly withheld portions of an internal memorandum Barr cited in publicly announcing that then-President Donald Trump had not committed obstruction of justice in the Russia investigation, a federal appeals panel said Friday. The department had argued that the 2019 memo represented the private deliberations of its own lawyers before any decision had been formalized, and was therefore exempt from disclosure. A federal judge previously disagreed, ordering the Justice Department to provide it to a government transparency group that had sued for it, prompting an appeal last year by the Biden administration to a higher court. Attorneys for the Justice Department didn't immediately respond to an email message seeking comment on the ruling. The department can appeal the ruling to the full court. At issue in the case is a March 24, 2019, memorandum from the head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, or OLC, and … [Read more...] about Panel rules Justice improperly withheld memo in Russia probe
