PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — With the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games officially over, here's a preview of 20 things to expect at the next Olympics, the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. 1. While this is the third time the Japanese capital has been awarded the games, Tokyo has hosted the Olympics only once — in 1964. The city was originally scheduled to host the 1940 Summer Games, but they were moved to Helsinki after war broke out between Japan and China in 1937. Three years later, the games were canceled because of World War II. 2. You might expect Tokyo 2020 to have a mascot worthy of Japan's anime obsession, and the six shortlisted designs don’t disappoint. The final decision is in the hands of 6.5 million students at the country's primary schools. The winner will be announced on Feb. 28. 3. The emblem for the next Olympics was left to the adults and has already been unveiled — a circular pattern made up of rectangular shapes in indigo blue. Tokyo 2020 … [Read more...] about Sayonara, PyeongChang! Land of the Rising Sun will host next Olympics.
PLAYER.ONE The 2018 Legendary Pokémon distribution continues in March, giving Gen 7 trainers a chance to obtain Heatran and/or Regigigas, two powerful Pokémon from the Sinnoh Region. Similar to the February distribution of Palkia and Dialga, the version of your game determines which of the two Legendary Pokémon you can obtain. It also determines the Pokémon’s level and the item it holds when it is brought over. Trainers who own Ultra Sun or Sun can only obtain Regigigas. If you transfer the Legendary Pokémon to Ultra Sun, it’ll be at Level 100 and holding a Gold Bottle Cap. Trainers looking for Heatran will have to transfer it to either Ultra Moon or Moon, with Ultra Moon getting their Fire and Steel-type Pokémon at Level 100 and holding a Gold Bottle Cap. Keep up with this story and more by subscribing now From March 1 to March 24, trainers will have a chance to download Heatran or Regigigas. HOW TO DOWNLOAD HEATRAN OR REGIGIGAS … [Read more...] about How to get Heatran & Regigigas for ‘Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon’
If you’re still playing Pokémon Sun or Moon (especially ahead of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon’s release on November 17), you might want to know that you can get a free Legendary (or Mythical, depending on what you want to call it) Pokémon right now. By buying Pokémon Gold or Silver on the Nintendo eShop, you’ll be given a code that allows you to unlock a free Celebi in Pokémon Sun or Moon, the first way to get your very own Celebi in those games, bar trading it with friends. You’re also able to wait, and use it in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, if you’d like to give yourself a bit of a headstart there. It’s pretty simple to do, too. The instructions are as follows: To get your code for Celebi - Launch Nintendo eShop in your Nintendo 3DS System. Select Menu in the top-left corner. Select Settings/Other. Select Account Activity. Select View Receipt on your Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Silver purchase. The serial … [Read more...] about Want a free legendary Pokémon? You can get your own Celebi in Pokémon Sun or Moon
McDONALDS recently launched its own flat white with a tongue-in-cheek advert, but how does it compare against the rest of the flat whites on the high street? Sun Savers’ Sophia blind taste-tested four of the frothy coffees from Maccies, Greggs, Costa and Wetherspoons - and here’s what happened. So how did we do it? Firstly, we investigated the cheapest flat white options on the high street and narrowed it down to four. Then we ordered flat whites from the four shops in question in reusable cups so that we didn't know which one was which. We scribbled the name of each flat white on the bottom of each cup so that we could refer to it later. Team Sun Savers set up shop alongside the Thames and blind taste-tested our flat whites and decided which one we liked the most. It's as simple as that! To be honest, all of the flat whites were pretty tasty so we decided to put two of them in third place, rather than one in fourth. But hey, it's personal preference - so you might like the … [Read more...] about From Wetherspoons to McDonald’s, the Sun Savers high street coffee blind taste test

The potential alliance/consortium/merger between the Mountain West and Conference USA hardly grabs headlines the way realignment at the BCS level has over the past 20 months or so. But in terms of impacting the greatest number of student athletes — and they’re what college athletics is all about, right … right? — the future of the MWC/CUSA is far more important than whether the ACC expands again or the Big 12 stays at 10. The situation directly involves the 16 planned future members of the MWC/CUSA super-conference and another 16-18 in the reconfigured WAC and Sun Belt, plus FCS schools considering moves to FBS. It’s a big, big deal to a lot of schools and the 85 current and near-future scholarship football players at those schools. I’ve checked with a handful of sources in the past 10 days, and the consensus is that we’ll know the details of the MWC/CUSA merger within the next month. And it will be a merger — a full-blown, … [Read more...] about FBS realignment: M-Day approaches for Mountain West, CUSA (and what that means for the WAC, Sun Belt and others)
*** This all becomes moot if Cal loses … For the better part of two weeks, my sources in Pac-10 bowl circles indicated the Sun Bowl would take Cal over Stanford if both finished 6-3 in league and the USC/Arizona winner was not available. And that was the case as recently as the middle of this week. But in the past 36 hours, it appears that Sun officials have changed their thinking. With the USC/Arizona winner most-likely headed for the Holiday Bowl, they’re now strongly considering taking Stanford — even if Cal wins today. That would leave Cal to the Emerald Bowl. (Officially, the Sun folks are staying neutral. Here’s a link to an El Paso Times story from this morning.) Frankly, you could make a good argument for either Bay Area team. Cal would have a better record (9-3 vs. 8-4) and a higher top-25 ranking (currently, it’s No. 19 vs. No. 23) and the head-to-head win. And the Bears are the only Pac-10 team that has never been to the Sun Bowl. But … [Read more...] about Cal and Stanford football: The Sun Bowl situation
Throughout the realignment wave that hit the BCS leagues last summer, the Hotline cautioned fans to keep one thing in mind above all else: Because there are so many levels of state and university politics and conference and NCAA bureaucracy involved in expansion, nothing is done until it’s done … and sometimes not even then. The same, it appears, is true for realignment at the non-BCS level. Last week, I reported that the Mountain West and Conference USA would merge sometime next months. Turns out, the merger plans could very well be shelved in favor of an alliance between the conferences. According to sources: * The NCAA told the MWC and C-USA that it would award the merged league only one AQ berth to postseason events. So instead of two 8-10 team leagues and two AQs, there would be one 16+ team league with only one AQ. (Think that went over well with MWC/C-USA officials?) * In addition … and I don’t claim to understand the legal nuances involved … the … [Read more...] about FBS realignment: M-Day becomes A-Day for the MWC, C-USA (and what that would mean for the WAC and Sun Belt)
