Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 BANGKOK (AP) — Myanmar’s Supreme Court heard final arguments on Monday in a long-running, bitter dispute between the country’s ousted leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, and her estranged elder brother over the property where she was held under house arrest for 15 years. The court in the capital, Naypyitaw, agreed last October to hear a special appeal from Suu Kyi’s brother, Aung San Oo, on how to divide the family property the siblings inherited in Yangon, the country’s biggest city, his lawyer said. The lawyer, Aye Lwin, said a special bench of the Supreme Court could reach a decision within three months and it would be final. Suu Kyi. 77, whose elected government was ousted in an army takeover last year, already faces a slew of legal cases brought by the military. The court system has been criticized by rights groups for being under the military's influence. Opinion: Why Wimbledon’s Russian and Belarusian player ban is the wrong call
Patrick McEnroe is a tennis commentator for ESPN. He is a former professional tennis player and captain of the US Davis Cup team. The views expressed in this commentary are his own. View more opinion on CNN. London (CNN) When I first heard back in February that the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) was considering banning Russian and Belarusian players from Wimbledon following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, I was surprised. After all, most other major leagues have allowed individual Russian athletes to continue to work in their respective sports -- whether it's the NHL in the US and Canada, European football leagues or the World Tennis Tour. Patrick McEnroe I have gone back and forth on whether the AELTC made the right decision. But after plenty of conversations with people at both ends of this political -- because it is political -- argument, I have reached a conclusion. The club made the wrong call. On Monday, the oldest and … [Read more...] about Opinion: Why Wimbledon’s Russian and Belarusian player ban is the wrong call
Wimbledon 2022: Serena Williams returns to grand slam action as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic headline men’s draw
(CNN) With the dust hardly settled from the clay-court season, the gaze of the tennis world has already turned to Wimbledon for the third grand slam of the year. The tournament, which gets underway on Monday, was wrapped in controversy weeks before a ball was due to be hit at SW19 with organizers banning Russian and Belarusian players amid the war in Ukraine. That decision led the ATP and WTA Tours, the governing bodies of men's and women's tennis, to strip this year's Wimbledon of ranking points , but that hasn't deterred the world's best players from taking part. Indeed, Serena Williams is scheduled to make a return to grand slam tennis after a year-long absence from the sport. This week, she has been competing in the women's doubles event at Eastbourne alongside Ons Jabeur, although the pair had to withdraw from the tournament semifinals after Jabeur picked up a knee injury. With so little match experience, it's difficult to predict how … [Read more...] about Wimbledon 2022: Serena Williams returns to grand slam action as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic headline men’s draw
Russian and Belarusian players barred from competing at Wimbledon tennis tournament
(CNN) Wimbledon organizers announced on Wednesday that Russian and Belarusian players will not be allowed to compete at this year's grand slam following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "Given the profile of The Championships in the United Kingdom and around the world, it is our responsibility to play our part in the widespread efforts of Government, industry, sporting and creative institutions to limit Russia's global influence through the strongest means possible," the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) said in a statement. "In the circumstances of such unjustified and unprecedented military aggression, it would be unacceptable for the Russian regime to derive any benefits from the involvement of Russian or Belarusian players with The Championships. "It is therefore our intention, with deep regret, to decline entries from Russian and Belarusian players to The Championships 2022," it added. The Kremlin said earlier on Wednesday that a ban on … [Read more...] about Russian and Belarusian players barred from competing at Wimbledon tennis tournament

Proper tire maintenance can help you stay safe, manage inflation and care for Mother Earth
(BPT) - When you think about the safety features on your car, seatbelts and airbags likely come to mind. While most people understand the lifesaving value of these devices, many are unaware of another important component of your car essential to safety: your tires. Modern tires are carefully designed for safety, performance, efficiency and reliability. Each tire is an engineering marvel made of different layers and sections, including belts with steel cords for stability and strength; bead bundles made of wire strands that secure the tire to the wheel; and the outside tread, which grips the road for control of the vehicle. "Tires are the most important safety devices you have on your car," said Anne Forristall Luke, president and CEO of the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA). "The contact patch of each tire is about the size of an adult palm print. This is all that connects you and your passengers to the road every time you drive, so it is critical we all take … [Read more...] about Proper tire maintenance can help you stay safe, manage inflation and care for Mother Earth
Newsom castigates GOP over gun policy after Texas school shooting: ‘Inaction is a choice’
SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom called out Republicans on Tuesday for inaction on the issue of gun control, saying the party “won’t do a damn thing” in a series of tweets hours after a shooting at a Texas elementary school that left at least 19 children and two adults dead. “Who the hell are we if we cannot keep our kids safe,” Newsom wrote. “This is preventable. Our inaction is a choice. We need nationwide, comprehensive, commonsense gun safety now.” The Democratic governor also reposted a tweet from the National Rifle Assn. that promoted former President Trump as a featured speaker at its conference in Houston on Friday, marking his sixth time speaking at the annual gathering. Newsom’s dispatches, which were quickly retweeted thousands of times, were among a sea of calls on the social media platform for stronger gun control legislation in the U.S. in the wake of the deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas, a small town about 80 miles west of San Antonio. … [Read more...] about Newsom castigates GOP over gun policy after Texas school shooting: ‘Inaction is a choice’
She Was WWE’s First Female Referee. She Says Vince McMahon Raped Her.
Rita Chatterton (center) said Vince McMahon told her that if she “wanted a half-a-million-dollar-a-year contract,” she would have “to satisfy him.” Photo: Courtesy the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame On August 28, 2021, Rita Chatterton, a sandy-haired 64-year-old woman, stood at a podium in Albany to receive a “Trailblazer Award” from the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was the brainchild of a wrestling fan named Seth Turner, who wanted to honor Chatterton for being the World Wrestling Federation’s first female referee. “Seth calls me and says, ‘Rita, I need you to do the Hall of Fame with me,’” Chatterton recalls. At first she refused; she didn’t want to revisit her time with the WWF, now known as WWE. But Turner finally convinced her, and she was ultimately glad she did it. “I always said I don’t want to live and die and be forgotten,” she told him. Chatterton has been forgotten before. In 1992, she came forward publicly … [Read more...] about She Was WWE’s First Female Referee. She Says Vince McMahon Raped Her.
