Diabetes-prevention firm Omada Health raises $23 million
Omada Health, a San Francisco startup with a digital diabetes-prevention program, said Wednesday it has raised $23 million in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz - marking the venture capital firm's first investment in the rapidly growing digital health industry. The amount, coupled with $4.7 million raised last year, enables the company to continue rolling out its diabetes-prevention program and begin developing other online programs to help patients reverse or avoid chronic diseases. Omada's product, Prevent, is aimed at Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of diabetes and one of the nation's biggest health problems. One in 3 American adults has prediabetes - the clinical precursor to Type 2 diabetes - and without lifestyle improvements, 15 to 30 percent of them will develop Type 2 diabetes within five years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
