COMMACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Officials on Long Island are hoping this Super Bowl Sunday means more people in front of TVs, and much fewer on the roads as plow drivers work to clear snow. The overwhelming message from Suffolk County – parts of which could see nine inches of snow – is to stay off the roads since dangerous driving conditions are expected, CBS2’s Jenna DeAngelis reported Sunday. Ready or not, there’s a winter storm rerun on Super Bowl Sunday, adding more slush to already snowy sidewalks and front lawns.“It’s scaring me, just the thought of cleaning up the mess again,” said Suzanne Stringham from East Meadow. “Not looking forward to digging out my car,” another person said. WEATHER TIMELINE: Winter Storm Could Bring Up To 8 Inches Of Snow Sunday Snow removal plans are in place on Long Island. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says there’s ample salt, and trucks are ready to hit the road. ‘A Mistake I Deeply Regret’: Denver Mayor Apologizes After Traveling For Thanksgiving While Urging Others to Stay Home
DENVER (CBS4) – Denver Mayor Michael Hancock says his decision to fly to Mississippi for Thanksgiving – even as he urged everyone else to stay home – was “unwise and hypocritical.” He says he wanted to be with his daughter for the holiday and acted with his heart and not his head. CBS4’s Shaun Boyd interviews Michael Hancock. (credit: CBS) “I recognize that my job as mayor, my job is not only to come up with safe practices for the entire city, but also to lead by an example, and I think by that measure, I failed. It’s a mistake I deeply regret and deeply apologize for.” RELATED: 'Doubly Disappointing': CU Cyberattack Hits Sensitive Security Information Some critics are now calling for Hancock’s resignation. He doesn’t deny that his actions were a case of do-as-I-say and not-as-I-do but, he says, he believes the science behind his message. “I have stood by science. I have worked very diligently with public health officials to make sure that what we were doing was … [Read more...] about ‘A Mistake I Deeply Regret’: Denver Mayor Apologizes After Traveling For Thanksgiving While Urging Others to Stay Home

California lifts regional stay-at-home orders as ICU crowding eases
(CNN)California health officials ended the state's regional stay-at-home order on Monday, saying the latest projections for intensive care unit capacity allowed the restrictions to be lifted. The order applied to the Southern California, San Joaquin Valley and Bay Area regions, which are home to more than 90% of the state's population of 39 million people. The four-week ICU projections for these areas show enough capacity to exit the order, according to the California Department of Public Health. All 58 counties now return to the state's tier-based system, which places each into one of four color-coded tiers indicating which activities and businesses are allowed based on local coronavirus case rates and test positivity. The tiers are reassessed every Tuesday. "Today, we can lay claim to starting to see some real light at the end of the tunnel as it relates to case numbers," said Gov. Gavin Newsom. Colorado retailers can open for curbside pickup Monday, new executive order says as stay-at-home expires
Colorado shops outside metro Denver can reopen for curbside pickup, real estate agents can show homes, and surgeries can resume Monday after Gov. Jared Polis on Sunday ordered a shift from “stay at home” to “safer at home.” But Coloradans still should stay home as much as possible and wear face masks in public, Polis stressed. Residents “have been effective” in slowing the spread of COVID-19, he said in a statement announcing three new executive orders just hours before a statewide stay-at-home order expired. “But life will remain much more dangerous than usual these next few months. …. We all have a personal responsibility to slow the spread of the virus and must find a way of living that is psychologically and economically sustainable for Coloradans.” Polis’ loosening of restrictions doesn’t apply in Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Jefferson and Boulder counties, where local authorities have extended stay-home orders through May 8. State public health officials in recent weeks … [Read more...] about Colorado retailers can open for curbside pickup Monday, new executive order says as stay-at-home expires
