In the year since the establishment of the Space Force, we have witnessed the service work to cement its structure, build out its mission, and define its culture. This culture is the most critical and longest lasting element of the Space Force. If its leaders get it right, we will witness a renaissance in space capabilities. If they get it wrong, we will find ourselves stuck with a morass of slow moving bureaucracy, byzantine acquisition processes, and ceding the metaphorical highest ground to China and Russia. Top defense officials are closing in on recommendations for creating a Space National Guard, the chief of the National Guard Bureau said Tuesday. Testifying before the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee on Tuesday, Gen. Daniel Hokanson told lawmakers that setting up a Space National Guard is one of his “most pressing concerns.” “I believe we're fairly close on that,” Hokanson said when asked about the Pentagon's progress on providing recommendations to Congress on a Space National Guard. The office vacancy rate in Manhattan has hit its highest level since 1994 and will likely hit “unprecedented levels” in the near future, a report from a global real estate services firm has found. CNN reported that the global real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield found that the office vacancy rate in Manhattan reached 16.3 percent in the first quarter of 2021, up from 11.3 percent a year ago. The company said it expects the rate to continue to rise to "unprecedented levels in the coming months" and drive down asking rents "substantially."
