Twelve survivors remained hospitalized Friday with moderate to severe injuries, KTTV, the Fox-owned TV station in Los Angeles . Seven were from Mexico, two from Guatemala and the rest were listed as "residences unknown." Three survivors were 18 years old or younger. SUV carrying 27 crashes with semitruck in California, killing 15, hospital says
El CENTRO, Calif. — An SUV believed to be carrying 27 people crashed into a semitruck Tuesday on a Southern California highway, killing 15 people and leaving others injured, hospital officials said. Judy Cruz, director of El Centro Regional Medical Center’s emergency department, said 14 people died at the scene, which is about 11 miles (18 kilometers) north of the U.S.-Mexico border, and another died after arriving at the hospital. Officials believe there were 27 people in an SUV that struck a tractor-trailer full of gravel. Multiple patients were sent to hospitals for their injuries, including four flown to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, spokesman Todd Burke said. Study Shows Wildfire Smoke Much More Harmful Than Auto Pollution
OAKLAND (KPIX) — We know the smoke from wildfires is bad. Now we know more about how bad it is. A new study released Friday shows wildfire smoke is much more hazardous than other common forms of air pollution. Tom Corringham Ph.D. and fellow researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego looked at 14 years of air quality and hospital admissions data in Southern California. Their report showed wildfire smoke is up to 10 times more harmful than air pollution from car exhaust, factories or power plants. “Our study is the first to show an effect at the population level,” Dr. Corringham said. “These are significant impacts that extend beyond just the area of the fire and have wide-reaching implications.” Corringham said wildfires often release tiny particles called PM 2.5 that are much smaller in diameter than a human hair. Over 3.3K Migrant Youth in DHS Custody as 20-Year Migration Surge Expected
More than 3,300 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) and youth arriving with adults at the United States-Mexico border are in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) custody as officials anticipate a 20-year surge of illegal immigration. Data reviewed by Breitbart News on Friday showed more than 3,300 migrant youth in DHS custody, about 71 percent of which are UACs who will be released to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for eventual release and resettlement in the U.S. The other roughly 30 percent in DHS custody as of March 5 were youth who arrived with border crossing adults. The data found that about 1,315 migrant youth, alone, were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border yesterday. Of all migrant youth currently in DHS custody, almost all of whom will be released into the U.S., more than 53 percent are boys between the ages of 13 and 17-years-old.
