Soccer Player Wins Internet in a Homer Simpson Meme Jersey
By Ashley Hoffman 9:08 AM EDT One of the internet’s most beloved memes is Homer Simpson receding into bushes – and it keeps on giving. People often deploy the meme from the 1994 episode of The Simpsons when it’s time for fair-weather sports fans to desert their team. But now the meme is enjoying another winning streak on the back of an actual soccer player – Nicolás Caprio. He’s a 28-year-old goalkeeper who plays for the Argentine division 3 team Ferro Carril Oeste de General Pico. His latest feat? He emerged to win the internet with his cool jersey, which features the “Homer Simpson backing into the bushes” meme on it. Everyone knows you can’t always spin athletic achievements into internet gold. In this case, Caprio is betting his choice to wear a meme on the lower half of his bright green jersey will make him a fan favorite. People are – and this may not shock you – impressed with his gear. Score. Que buena … [Read more...] about Soccer Player Wins Internet in a Homer Simpson Meme Jersey
Ex-USMMA soccer player intends to pursue $5M injury claim
A former U.S. Merchant Marine Academy soccer player, whose allegations of sexual assault by several other team members in fall 2016 have been under federal investigation, has put the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Maritime Administration on notice that he intends to pursue a legal claim for $5 million for personal injuries. The claim, filed under the Federal Tort Claims Act by New Jersey-based attorney Thomas Grasso on behalf of the former midshipman referred to as “John Doe,” alleges “negligent conduct” by members of the academy’s coaching staff and certain former seniors on the men’s soccer team, as well as the athletic department and the Kings Point school’s administration. The student, who was a freshman in fall 2016, was subjected to “unwanted, nonconsensual, forceful sexual battery and assault, false imprisonment, hazing, subjection to ridicule and embarrassment, extreme acute and chronic psychological and emotional … [Read more...] about Ex-USMMA soccer player intends to pursue $5M injury claim
Federal lawsuit by former USMMA soccer players dismissed
The federal lawsuit against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy by several former soccer players for the Kings Point school under federal investigation for alleged sexual assault of another player has been dismissed, according to court papers filed Thursday. “The case was dismissed by agreement of all the parties,” said John Marzulli, spokesman in Central Islip for the Eastern District of New York. The dismissal by U.S. District Court Judge Joanna Seybert came 10 months after seven USMMA seniors filed the complaint, days after Rear Adm. James A. Helis, the academy’s superintendent, placed them on deferred graduate status shortly before the school’s June 2017 commencement. The seniors had alleged that Helis’ action violated their constitutional right to due process. The seven were among a group of upperclassmen soccer players under investigation by the Office of Inspector General in the U.S. Department of Transportation, the federal agency that oversees the … [Read more...] about Federal lawsuit by former USMMA soccer players dismissed

PARKERSBURG — Gaining recognition on the recruiting trail from a national championship-winning program isn’t as easy as kicking a soccer ball into an empty net. Often times, potential players get the ball by one goalie only to see two or three more in front of the net ready to block the shot. Parkersburg South soccer player Ethan Nedeff took matters into his own hands when it came time to contact the University of Charleston’s reigning NCAA Division II national championship group, which made a difference. The Patriot, a four-year starter and participant of the net sport since the age of four, knew he had what it took to be part of the Golden Eagles’ program. Nedeff led the blue and white with a touch of red in goals scored and assists his junior and senior seasons and finished fifth … [Read more...] about UC the pick for South soccer player Ethan NedeffCOMMENTSLocal SportsTodd Burner’s 3-run bomb fuels Patriots past CadetsPatriots’ hoopster Allie Taylor inks with Wheeling JesuitSMOKINGWarren High baseball can’t corral ColtsParkersburg South’s Makayla Burns college-boundCougars sweep St. Marys softball in doubleheaderParkersburg South’s Makayla Burns college-boundVienna City Council discusses Johns Manville site cleanupJohnson, McKinley question ZuckerbergParkersburg South falls to Point Pleasant, 10-5Cougars sweep St. Marys softball in doubleheaderWarren High baseball can’t corral ColtsNewsletter
