COVID-19 Relief Bill Provides Billions to Bail Out Abortion Industry
As the Senate prepares to debate the COVID-19 Relief bill, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) observed the bill provides $400 billion that contains no protections for ensuring it will not be used to fund elective abortion. Daines tweeted a video of his review of some of the features of the measure, which passed the House Friday, referring to it as the “liberal wish list” of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY): . @JoeBiden , Pelosi and Schumer’s “COVID-19 relief package” is nothing more than a 628 page liberal wish list. Let’s dig in to some of Nancy Pelosi's greatest hits. Tax Revenues In Florida Top Forecast In January
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — Florida tax revenues slowed somewhat in January from the final months of 2020 but continued a trend of beating a forecast issued as the state phased out COVID-19 lockdown efforts in the summer. And while tax collections from the battered tourism industry continue to hamper monthly revenue totals, the numbers for January should further help lawmakers as they patch together a budget for next fiscal year while facing a potentially large shortfall caused by the pandemic. READ MORE: Plantation Man Accused Of Scamming $300,000 From Elderly Residents Gov. Ron DeSantis was quick Friday to highlight the improved revenue numbers. “I think it shows that we’ve got a lot of economic momentum here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said while at a COVID-19 vaccination event at the On Top of the World community in Marion County. “And we want to continue on that path. And the only reason we’re doing it is because Florida’s open, we’re trusting people to make … [Read more...] about Tax Revenues In Florida Top Forecast In January
Students Pursuing Risky Degrees Draw More Than $25 Billion In Yearly Federal Loans
Noël Flynn is spending more than 80 percent of her income to pay back tens of thousands of dollars in debt for her Art Therapy degree. In 2016 alone, the Department of Education loaned $25.9 billion to students who, like Flynn, chose degrees under the umbrella of the liberal arts and humanities , an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation found. A significant portion of those students are unlikely to have the means to pay back their debt after graduating. “I find myself struggling financially, and the biggest reason why is student loans,” said Flynn, 23, who says she was told the loans “wouldn’t be overwhelming” once she graduated. Most federal student loan programs do not require a credit check , nor do they require a cosigner. Rather, the loans are backed by nothing more than the borrower’s future earnings with a college degree, but the kind of degree isn’t a consideration in the loan process. “What you make depends on what you take,” Anthony Carnevale, … [Read more...] about Students Pursuing Risky Degrees Draw More Than $25 Billion In Yearly Federal Loans
AstraZeneca’s vaccine contract with the UK is based on ‘best efforts,’ just like its deal with a frustrated EU
London (CNN) AstraZeneca's contract to supply the UK with 100 million Covid-19 vaccine doses commits it to making "best reasonable efforts," the same language used in its deal with the European Union , which critics blamed for the bloc's faltering inoculation program. The details of the contract are contained in a redacted version published online without fanfare months ago, long before the UK and the EU became embroiled in a bitter dispute over vaccine supply. British officials had earlier declined to provide the contract to CNN, making no mention of the redacted version, and have repeatedly refused to give details on the country's vaccine supplies, citing "security reasons." A junior UK government minister said in a recent interview that publishing the contract would risk national security. Yet in response to a Freedom of Information request from CNN, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) this week provided CNN a link to the redacted … [Read more...] about AstraZeneca’s vaccine contract with the UK is based on ‘best efforts,’ just like its deal with a frustrated EU
