Poor decision? I had no issue with the A’s starting Jesús Luzardo in Game 1 despite Chicago’s 14-0 record against left-handed starters. Oakland did have some reasons — starting with the fact that Luzardo is the team’s most talented starter, and he was poised and confident out of the bullpen in last year’s wild-card game, having spent less than a month in the majors and usually a starter. I said it was a risk — the White Sox run out an impressive right-handed hitting lineup, and they led the majors in homers — but the A’s looked at the lefties Chicago faced, and it was, to be kind, a mixed bag.
