JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Authorities announced that they are investigating the deadly Jersey City shooting as a potential act of domestic terrorism. New Jersey’s Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said investigators recovered five firearms from the victims, four in the kosher market with the suspects and one in the U-Haul rental van outside. Inside the store they found an AR-15 style weapon they believe suspect David Anderson was firing, and a 12 gauge shotgun they believe was carried by suspect Francine Graham. Two 9mm pistols were also found with the suspect, Grewal said. In the van, they found a .22 caliber pistol with a homemade silencer and a device to catch shell casings, Grewal said. The Controversial Crime-Fighting Program That Changed Big-City Policing Forever
In celebration of New York Magazine’s 50th anniversary, this series, which will continue through October 2018, tells the stories behind key moments that shaped the city’s culture. Dermot Shea has a name and a face straight out of a stereotypical New York City cop TV show. Adding to Shea’s throwback vibe is the world-weary rasp in his voice, a product of his blue-collar Queens roots and a thousand late nights in squad rooms. He knows the changes in grand larceny rates by precinct and in shooting incidents by time of day, plus the recidivism metrics for robbery suspects, broken down by Bronx blocks, updated as of an hour ago. Yet Shea, the NYPD’s chief of crime-control strategies, isn’t simply some numbers geek. He is also immersed in the subtleties of how to question a drug dealer and the genealogy of the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation gang. His look and sound is classic patrol guide. But … [Read more...] about The Controversial Crime-Fighting Program That Changed Big-City Policing Forever
China: Jersey City Shooting Proves ‘U.S. Shrouded in Sorrow and Hopelessness’
China’s Global Times propaganda outlet declared on Wednesday that all of America is “shrouded in sorrow and hopelessness” as a result of citizens’ constitutional right to own firearms, using as its evidence the terrorist attack in Jersey City, New Jersey, on Tuesday. The Times contended that gun violence will remain “ceaseless” in the country as long as American members of Congress continue to criticize the Chinese Communist Party for establishing concentration camps and routinely engaging in human rights atrocities such as murder, rape, forced sterilization, torture, and live organ harvesting. The newspaper also claimed that American democratic norms, which allow open debate of policy issues, make it too difficult for politicians to crack down on Americans’ rights. China banned private gun ownership in the aftermath of the communist revolution 70 years ago. “When U.S. senators, such as Marco Rubio [R-FL], are busy finding … [Read more...] about China: Jersey City Shooting Proves ‘U.S. Shrouded in Sorrow and Hopelessness’
